This is a picture off the side deck. Got venison handy if I need it!

Well, don’t know how to rotate photo... If a moderator can do it, go for it!

My apologies to those of you experiencing the uncertainty of the times. I don’t mean to be bragging. I started this remodel a year ago last January. Had to change contractors after the first 9 months and then got shut down by COVID for a few months. Like I said, I’m just really excited that it’s done!

Very nice! Enjoy the house your mother did. I only wished I could’ve kept my grandmother home, I offered cash money to my aunt and she didn’t even considered it.

It wasn’t great, but my grandma bought it for 20k back in the 1950s. She was a teacher, worked hard for it and bought it as a single woman. She helped her family to transition from their poor life into a better place.

I always think that family homes have some kind of sentimental value and should stay in the family as long as everyone can.

It’s very cool that you’re keeping it, remodeling and living on it should be a great proud for you. Enjoy your time off and new adventures, thank you for building this company for us to enjoy.

That’s definitely a dick move. The company doesn’t care, so they’re actually screwing over their fellow VEOP takers. It will mess with the departure dates of others and potentially influence others not to get out if they get a crappy date, or to potentially get out if they artificially get a better date than what they’ll actually end up with, based off false information. 2 people may not be enough to seriously muck up the results, but if enough people are doing this, it will have cascading effects. The bulk of the UNAs are likely gone either way, so the people they’re actually hurting the most by messing with the data, are their own buds they’ve been flying with for the past 20+ years. Again, dick move.

I couldn’t afford to buy my own house! 😅 The second one is my family home that my mom designed (she graduated from MIT in 1950 with a degree in Architecture. Only used it to design this house.) My dad and the family built it. Just finished a remodel on it. I’d post a couple pics but have never figured out how to do it. I don’t want to sell either one but in event of a BK, that may need to be re-evaluated. .

As far as healthcare goes, if I go September 1, after 24 months my wife will have just turned 65 and go on Medicare and I will pay the contractual 51% for DPMP for a year and a couple months before going on Medicare. We will have to purchase some sort of Medicare supplemental insurance.

At this point I think taking the VEOP is worth the risk but I’m constantly evaluating it.

If your wife turns 65 before you do, you may want to look at filing for social security benefits as a dependent. It’s based on her eligibility and isn’t related to your anticipated benefits. The rules may have changed, but I had a friend a few years back file for dependent benefits under his wife and start drawing a check without starting his benefits, and his wife hadn’t filed for hers yet either. Small side benny if you marry a more mature woman.

Bunch of whiny babies. For a group that makes in the top 1%, there sure are a bunch of people who think they've been screwed over.

I am not quite eligible, so my opinion is purely hypothetical. I can’t begrudge anyone that does (or doesn’t) sign up for the VEOP as they evaluate what is or isn’t best for themselves.

With respect to the fate of the UNAs, I am less sympathetic to the company, which according to my (and some other’s) math, could carry the UNAs for a month at or less than what a single day of cash burn currently is. In other words, jettisoning the UNAs equals a daily savings of approximately 3-4% of our current daily burn, and is therefore a really dumb business move considering the potential long term damage to the brand via disgruntled pilots on our seniority list (after recall) for decades to come.

When carrying UNAs represents such a small amount of our current burn rate, and the company keeps reminding us with respect to not booking middle seats or flying a full schedule that we have a revenue problem, I think phallic move is the disingenuous rush by the company to shoot the 2558 hostages as a publicity stunt to the non-cons and remaining pilots alike. For the non-cons it’s a clear signal that a union is a liability: “See all those pilots getting furloughed because they’re union wouldn’t agree to reducing work hours? Your division reduced work hours and you still have a job.” (Say it with your best Dolores Umbridge voice) For the pilots, it’s a straight up signal of power, which the company will immediately want to follow with a resumption of section 6 talks (cue the clueless tone from JL as he claims to just be working through a logical to do list).

In summary, the fate of the UNAs isn’t decided by greedy older pilots, but rather by the company as it chases a monetary rounding error while sending signals to employee groups.

To clarify, I also don’t begrudge anyone that’s on the fence and just wants to see what their options are. However that’s not what I was reacting to. The post in question said two individuals were signing up for the VEOP that have no intentions of taking it “Because they've been screwed over so many times, its finally their turn to screw somebody and they don't care who.” It’s that mentality that I take issue with. They’re not screwing the company, they’d be screwing their fellow pilots.

I once had a coach that used to say, “Quietly work hard to do your best and the people that matter will notice, and those that don’t notice don’t matter.” That has always stuck with me.

On the flip side, those with ill intentions WRT VEOP signup and later withdrawal, I agree that their intentions distinguish them for gratuitous phallic infatuation, but absent an actual moment where they lord it over a departing UNA, it’s the equivalent of them screaming at the sky. It’s childish, and amongst the jaded senior pilots I’ve flown with, it’s still an outlier. Props to them for finding a way to be even more douchetastic in their own minds.

I’m thinking it’s ‘just in case’ mentality. One click to revoke.
