I got a kick out of the Miata owner's response "Believe me, I’m stupid but I’m not an ass."

Well, he's wrong on 1 count. Going to an event where you plan to push it on worn tires makes you both stupid and an ass. Pushing it on a public road makes you stupid and an ass. Crossing the double yellow line on a public road makes you stupid and an ass.

I mostly avoid Deal's Gap due to people like the Miata driver in this story (and especially on weekends). The track is 10x more fun and safe, albeit considerably more expensive.

Driving the "Dragon's Spine" in GA in the fall is a sucker's bet.

Did it twice in the fall, saw multiple collisions both times.

Great road, especially for motorcycles, IF you can have it to yourself. But (thank you internet) there are no secret spots anymore, anywhere. So you can't have it to yourself.

Alas.

One of the best things about living in ATL is we're within 3 hours of Barber and Road Atlanta, and less than a half days drive to NCM, VIR, and many other excellent tracks. I'm at Barber this weekend, and of course accidents happen on the track but overall you can push a lot harder with a lot less stuff to hit than on public roads.

Miatas are like flies. They are everywhere and exist to get in the way of what should be a pleasant experience :D
