Do IVD Vacation Days cost you money?

Just noticed something I’ve not seen before on my time card. (Reserve pilot) I used 1 IVD in the DEC bid period. Reserve guarantee for my category is 77:00. Vacation day value is 3:45.

Looking at my time card, it appears they reduced my guarantee by 4:32 and then pay the IVD at 3:45 for a net loss of 47 minutes off of reserve guarantee. For a normal vacation day they should have reduced guarantee reduced guarantee by 2:29 (pro rata portion) and then pay the vacation day at 3:45 for a net gain of 1:16.

I’ve tried using the John Bell spreadsheet to calculate and it doesn’t seem to differentiate for IVD pay vs plain old VAC days. Company has also done the same to me on my NOV time card as well, where I also used my other IVD.

I’ve used IVDs in the past and never looked closely how they were paid I guess. Anyone can shed some light on how these days are supposed to be paid? Is the pay really different (lower) when you utilize an IVD as opposed to an awarded VAC day?

Yes. They will drop any reserve days or trips which will result in the value of those days being dropped. You then get 3:45 per IVD day credited back.

What RockBoy said is correct. It's what it is - its a bit sucky but it's like a (mostly) paid APD.

If you're a line holder, it drops the whole trip and just pays what the IVD pays - so you're losing out on less pay as a reserve pilot using IVD.

Yup. I discovered this a couple years ago and was sort of disappointed, but it’s better than a PD.
