The numbers were misinterpreted, the trip the guy is trying to swap into is a Q trip, not a true uncovered trip, the "4 day" ended with a red-eye and was actually a 5 day, etc etc.

That doesn't mean that mistakes aren't possible, just that the contract allows for same day for same day swaps, regardless of numbers.
I will add, if you’re swapping one trip for two separate trips over the same days to make sure you have it entered correctly. The two trips you want to pickup have to be entered horizontally on the same add line, not vertically. That’s commonly messed up.

Schedule flexibility here is worse than many regionals. It's irritating to say the least. (And no, I wouldn't rather work for a regional.)

This really needs to be fixed on the next contract. There's a bunch of problems here. First, I understand they need to protect certain holidays. Hence, there should be holiday pay. Need a better argument? All of the other work groups get holiday pay. So should we. Optics and all. Second, any day they treat as a holiday (i.e., 1 day before and 2 days after the associated holiday where they limit trip trading, drops and X-day moves) should also pay "holiday pay". Why not? They're getting 4 days out of every holiday they declare, limiting our ability to drop, swap or move X-days. If they don't want to pay holiday pay for ALL of those extra days, they don't get to protect them. Payback days should be treated the same on holidays as any other day. You earned them, often times by them violating your off days. This mess really needs to be fixed...as well as the crappy IT programming that won't let you swap equal trips within these "protected days."

I, too, want an extra hundred hours of pay per year

Optics and all you really don’t want the Holiday Pay other employees get. As a example a 12 year flight attendant gets about 30.00 an hour more but only for flying performed on the designated Holiday not the entire trip. So she goes from 70 to 100 an hour for some of the rotation flying. As part of their Holiday work package every single flight attendant must provide a DR’s note for any sick call over a holiday. Overall not a very expensive package for the company.

I want 101.

I agree with you here. A contract isn’t always going to be one sided. This is one of the negatives of this business, having to work holidays. The sooner you get over it and teach your family to get over it, the happier you’ll be. I’m ecstatic I have 1/2 of Xmas eve and all Xmas day off. Ecstatic! I told my neighbor and he started apologizing and feeling sorry for me. And here I was thinking I hit the powerball. As sailing said, holiday pay isn’t really what it’s cracked up to be and I doubt we will be getting blanket greenies to work on traditionally very busy periods. These periods are why we staff the air line.

I'm not sure exactly what your scenario is here, but if you are swapping one trip for another over the exact same days, and same trip length, the swap will still be approved, even if within the holiday footprint. After all the company is no worse off in terms of reserve availability numbers.

Every time someone complains about being unable to do so, there's always more to the story.

If the last trip blocks in after 2330 (and being released after 0000) it’ll touch the next day and the computer will think that you’re trying to swap out of 5 days ... not 4.

I'm having this problem currently. Convenient we don't get an extra day of pay for being released after midnight like United does though!
