Interesting rumor about the 14 days self-quarantine after each shot (2 minimum) before flying again.
Company probably should have carved out a provision to the 1900 or so pilots receiving pay with no obligation to ... "no obligation...except one (the shots)."
Sticky wickets: 1. Can you make it mandatory and 2. no one has any idea who gets/will be required to get the first doses.
Going to be a god-awful mess if current line pilots have to be inoculated en masse.
Tend to think a Fortune 100 company with a dedicated governmental affairs office would have more info than, say, me.
In the immortal stich of the Critical Drinker..."'Nah, It'll be fine"

To answer your question, no. These vaccines as described from the companies and CEO’s do not reduce transmissibility nor do they decrease your probability of infection. All they do is lesson the likelyhood of mild to severe symptoms once you are “infected”. It’s also one of numerous reasons why it makes no sense to mandate them.
“Second, Moderna and Pfizer acknowledge their vaccines appear to induce side effects that are similar to the symptoms of mild Covid-19. In Pfizer’s early phase trial, more than half of the vaccinated participants experienced headache, muscle pain and chills.
If the vaccines ultimately provide no benefit beyond a reduced risk of mild Covid-19, they could end up causing more discomfort than they prevent.”

That's awesome, and I say that with zero sarcasm.
I always get high fevers with pretty much every vaccine...kinda makes me wonder what's the point? Still...every year, I'm off to CVS for the flu shot.
The individual "smart play" on any vaccine is let everyone else get it, then benefit from the herd immunity. (no vaccine is 100% safe). Nice to know I'll have government approved reason to skip out on this one. At least for awhile.

As for your "smart play", there are millions of people who can't get vaccinated. You're not being smart, you're being ignorant.

I am being a bit absurd of course, to illustrate the absurdity of a, new, as yet unproven, vaccine. Did you know they store it at like -80C -70C? That's crazy.
Anyway, I don't think, at least ATM, it will be mandated. Hopefully they take the flu vaccine approach.
I don't mind Yellow Fever mandate. It is a proven vaccine, been around forever. I got it twice in the military (its good for 10 yrs I think). Plus once so far at DAL.

I understand the hesitation with new vaccines, but if you take the time, you'll see they're probably the most heavily scrutinized drug in the world. The new ones have more research and testing than basically anything. And if you're still not comfortable, the Brits made one the old school way that only costs $4.

I sent an email a couple days ago to my FAA doc and he says, so far, nothing has been put out by FAA so go for it.
Now, thru the rumor mill, I’ve heard the FAA will require a 14 day self quarantine after each shot. If that’s the case, I sure hope something can be negotiated for pay protection....

I was thinking the same thing. Any time you start a new medication, the FAA requires you to not fly for some period of time. Usually 72 hours. Once more data is out, I’m guessing the same will apply here. Also, are you contagious if you’re experiencing “mild” symptoms after vaccination? If so, then you may need to quarantine for a while, but the CDC just reduced quarantine guidelines for COVID, so I don’t see a 14 day quarantine, maybe 9-10 or whatever the new quidelines are.
A lot of participants in the phase 3 trials for both Pfizer and MRNA vaccines said after the second dose, if they could do it over again, would take a couple days off work. They had headaches, chills, body aches, and fatigue, but it only lasted a day or two and by the third day, they felt fine.

Another theory could be that, if you are experiencing any COVID symptoms, how do you determine if it is vaccine induced or the real thing?
You can (theoretically) still get sick while your body builds up the vaccine-derived immunity. Worst flu I ever had was about a week after I had received my flu shot. (not recent, maybe they missed the strain that year)
(I love theory...)
