Something to ponder as the new congress will at least double the latest stimulus putting us in the 6T range.

DEC 2008 "The Great Recession"
-11.1 million unemployed of 198 million working age people.
-There were real structural issues in the economy.
-bailout was tiny compared to this and very little went to average Joe. An epic 11 year bull followed only interrupted by Covid.

Dec 2020
-no fundamental issue working against a recovery in the economy.
-10.8 million unemployed out of 206 million working age people.
-record high savings rates and increasing net worth.

Why is so much needed this time for a much smaller problem where a fairly easy and much smaller, targeted bailout would suffice?

They are expanding federal government control for endearment or enslavement of the population at large to their benefactors in congress. The politicians are buying votes with the public's money.

Pick your favorite from the list of debunked quotes on the matter. The last was a confirmed piece from an oped in the 50s.

"When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." - Benjamin Franklin“The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public’s money”

-Alexis De Tocqueville

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the majority discovers it can vote itself largess out of the public treasury. After that, the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits with the result the democracy collapses because of the loose fiscal policy ensuing, always to be followed by a dictatorship, then a monarchy." -

And last but most important:
America is always just one generation away from being turned over to socialism.....

What?!?

I thought we were an anarcho-syndicalist commune!

I'm ready for a king, divinely chosen by a lady in the lake

Some would say that strange women lying in ponds, distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. That supreme executive power derives from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.

I, however, believe you CAN expect to wield supreme executive power because some watery tart throws a sword at you.

Yes, you too can run around calling yourself an emperor if a moistened bint lobs a scimitar at you, and I for one won't lobby to put you away.

Monty Python has studied this political dynamic extensively in their documentary "MP and the Quest for the Holy Grail."

Maybe I'm wrong but...

Didn't I read or hear in a townhall that there was no leftover money from the cares act even if this year's payroll was significantly less than last year's payroll because... reasons. That money was used for general business purposes or some such excuse as I recall.

Anyway...

Round 2 says, "Pursuant to the PSP Extension Agreement, Delta expects to receive $2.9 billion in payroll support payments, which must be used exclusively for the continuation of payment of employee wages, salaries and benefits."

The cares act 2 will be used to lower the “net debt”, which they talked about it in yesterday’s townhall.

What I think it meant was “we will use the money that was supposed to pay you guys from our pocket towards the debt”.

In my opinion, even the affected pilots are getting full pay (717 rates though). So, if management thinks they will be profitable by summer, it’s a good move. iMO
