Getting ready to go through it myself. Kids are involved, otherwise I would have done it a few years ago. Life is too short. Can anyone recommend a VERY GOOD FEMALE divorce attorney on the north side? I’d prefer to keep it amicable and go mediation route, but I’m guessing that won’t happen. My apologies if a suggestion was previously made.

Be prepared for sticker shock.

All the best for you. It just started for me, I filed last week. Hope for the best and pray for the worst. I spent all day looking at apartments, expensive dumps on the north side. Pm if you want to talk.

If you can, DO NOT leave the house. I left the house, it was that bad, and now I have zero paternal rights until I can get a temporary order from a judge after filing for divorce AND it’s been accepted by her. Ball park time to a hearing with a judge two months.

Reading stories like this makes me shake my head. How is this legal? The deck is so stacked against responsible fathers and the mothers know this and use it to their fullest advantage. I am sorry you are going through this ppping, hopefully your kids can see right through this.

Some kids will formulate their own views and some won’t. A lot depends on their personality and how/why and what the other parent is doing. Someone on here recommended the book Divorce Poison. It’s a very helpful read even if it’s not going to be a horrible divorce. From intentionally brainwashing the child into allegations of false abuse to mild badmouthing the other parent for being late to helpful supportive coparenting. It’s alarming what we can do to the other parent and the kids out of anger, ignorance or whatever known or unknown motive.

Some courts know about parent alienation syndrome and some don’t. You can always pay some psychologist to argue for or against whatever is happening to the kids. It can go on for years and become a war of financial attrition or until someone realizes they may be doing more harm to the kids than good by continuing to fight.

Really? Follow the $. How does one get to be a family law judge? By having practiced family law. How does one figure out the way everyone gets paid? By having been one that was paid. Does going to court, emails, phone calls require everyone getting paid except for the family going thru the drama.

I actually heard this in court waiting for our turn when another couple was fighting over something stupid....”Wow, your clients are really bickering..” “Yup, just the way we like it”

So far I have spent $22.5k in retainers (that’s for both parties). My lawyer’s quote was custody can get REALLY expensive especially if one party is being irrational. Guardian ad listens, psychologists, affidavits etc. On the positive side for me she(lawyer) is very concerned for my budget, I think I am a really small fish to fry in her world.
I would mediate in a heartbeat. 50% asset split, reasonable and fair alimony for her and reasonable custody for me and done. Save a ton of OUR money. With the wrong lawyers and the wrong mindset money pit isn’t even the right phrase.
