To be fair, the drive to make home ownership attainable for anyone who wants to own a home, by leaning on banks to ease lending standards, was Clinton’s baby. That’s where it began. Then Wall Street (Lou Raneiri (sp?)) figured out a way to monetize it, which reduced the risk to the banks holding the loan notes and Billions started flowing to feed the creation of more shaky loans. The rest is history, unfortunately.

The whole issue - trying to give credit to the non-creditworthy rather than teaching the non-creditworthy to actually BECOME creditworthy is vaguely reminiscent of the attempt by the state legislature of Indiana to change the value of pi by legislative fiat:

Be it arrogance or ignorance, our elected representatives sometimes do a terrible job of dealing with reality.

Politicizing the underwriting of home loans appreciably distorted the housing market. But lenders didn't want a daily disruptive Rainbow PUSH demonstration at their corporate HQ, and the ability to off-load loans to GSEs alleviated some or most of the risk. So why not? Win-win!

More good news!

CNN is pulling out of airports! https://nypost.com/2021/01/12/jeff-z...ites-covid-19/

Not so much about watching CNN per se, it's just the non-stop, can't find a quiet moment, endless droning on and on and on about the same 3 stories of the non-stop news cycle. TV is a dinosaur for news anyway.

Airports are hectic and stressful enough. Here's to hoping all those airports put in something a little more Zen, for everyone.

(I like nature scenes. I suspect it's going to be more like non-stop pharmaceutical adds)

I agree, that is good news. It’s annoying to have to listen to the news blaring in addition to the dozens of airport messages. Rather watch something peaceful and quiet. Maybe something nature related would be good (as long as it’s nothing like the scene I saw one time where one lion pulled off and ate the genitals of a water buffalo while another lion held it by the throat, that one still haunts me).

Hopefully they stream Jerry Springer reruns.
