Not a dumb question, he's the company medical guy. Had to send his office the medical and whatever I had from FAA. As someone else stated, it was 24 hours. And full ALV while NQAT

This is exactly how it went for me. Once I was cleared by my primary care, Faulkner had my clearance to delta that afternoon or the next day. I had a phone call from CPO the same day then started training about 48 hours after all that. So don’t “call in well” until you are ready to be in the sim within 48 hours.

Approval is required for any medical absence of 4 months or more. It’s normally just a paperwork formality, and if he has any questions it’s usually to make sure people are taking enough time off and not rushing a return.

I definitely would not be prepared for a sim within 48 hours if I were miraculously better tomorrow!

I'm in the situation covered in 13.C.2.a.Exception: My category went away while I was out. I've got all my ducks in a row for a RTW this Thursday. I'm right there with buckleyboy...there is no way I'd be ready for an ESV in 48 hours.
Any ideas on wait time for full courses for the 320, 330 or 73N - all B?

I’m guessing anyone who got 48 hour notice from submitting their medical to starting in the sims went back to the same equipment, and was out less than 12 months. Regardless, I’ll bet they didn’t need a full IQ. Maybe even just qualified for a RECY sim.
FOM 20.12 has some info for what is required when, and the DIG will tell you what your “course” will consist of. For example, if you were out less than 36 months and going back to the same equipment, it’s a Normal Requal (~9-12 days), while under 12 months is a special requal (~3-4 days).
However, If you return to different equipment, you will have to do the SuccessFactors academics, which they have to give you time to complete. (New hires get a full week…) And obviously you will get a full IQ. Even in “normal” times it was usually a couple weeks for all the moving parts to come together after your RTW (return to work) and IQ start. In Covid times, who knows? Could be months… Plus, as we transition toward normal, data points will get stale quickly.
One of the good deals about coming back from disability over 6 months: you can select any category for which there was an AE at your seniority level while out. PWA 13.C.2.b. Less than 6 months, you go back where you were, unless the category was closed. In that case you can go anywhere your seniority can hold.
Good luck!
*Edit*. Just saw captkdobbs post. Again, I’d wager the absolute soonest will be a couple of weeks. It will take that long to get the academics loaded, and for the training planners to find/build you a spot. With all the NQAT folks, you are just another log on the big pile right now, so I wouldn’t be suprised if it was a couple of months. It seems like everything is operating slower than normal right now, especially on the NB fleets.

Does the fact that conversions haven't even started change the contractual "the category of his choice that his seniority permits him to hold"? In other words, pilots junior to me hold the AE AWARD, but no movement has started; does my seniority 'permit me to hold' a position that no junior pilot lives yet?
TIA for any insight from the group.

Thanks for the insight and manual-references. I'm leaning toward the 330B slot since some folks junior to me were awarded it in the last AE. (full course since the 7ER left the building)

FWIW, I highly recommend choosing the 330. You’ll love it.
