Providence metro of 1.6 million waving back. Also a 60 minute drive.

Boston is the 10th largest metro area in the US. While not growing as fast as Austin it is still growing, has more than double the population, and has a huge corporate travel base.

In less than 5 years, Austin is going to dwarf Boston. More people. More money. Not having a significant presence in TX is going to leave a mark sooner or later.
Most of your customers are coming from the very affluent Greater Boston area. Places like Cambridge, Brookline, Weston, Wellesley etc...
Lots of money. The city limits of Boston doesn’t tell the story.

People who live in Rhode Island, stay in Rhode Island. Their idea of a vacation is driving to the Cape.

I second this!

FLL/MIA or TPA would also be good

1.5 metro, but 2.3 MSA for San Antonio
added to AUS 2.0 MSA
= San Marcos, TX base covering AUS, SAT and HYI

It's easier covering those three than EWR, LGA and J effin K
and about the same as LAX/SNA

I've heard it from top carbon based life forms. (FOM update compliant)

Strange how many 717’s Delta flies out of Atlanta if that is true.

Population in "city limits" is worthless data for flying markets. You're (your?) right about BOS being a huge flying market. Its also very affluent, massive corporate demand and is a "college town" orders of magnitude more than most so called college towns. The market (including the markets it reliably and consistently pulls from) has a massive, built in "cabin fever" component as well.

The notion that "there can be only one" WRT future bases is silly. DL has (and still does) open very expensive new bases with as little as a single flight a day in mind (obviously long haul in those extreme cases). There are many airport markets (aka "cities") more than big enough to justify a narrowbody pilot domicile and BOS is and always be one of them. What gets in the way for DL is the million fleet type philosophy force multiplied with marketing being the upperclassman fraternity bosses and flight ops being the pledges. Every flight MUST be a different plane from a different base.
