Anyone own a sleep number bed?

I wish. They are worth looking up though as they are consistently one of the highest rated and not obscenely priced mattresses available. Consumer reports had their reliability rated higher than anything at the time. No dents or divots or sag. Also great with tortilla chips.

A single friend of mine told me about his memory foam one day. He said it was the best sleep ever but he was getting rid of it. The reason? Well, it seems it’s great for sleeping but not so much for the 🙄 extracurriculars. I never would have thought of it but he said you just kind of sink into the foam and don’t get any bounce back.
I'm actually super glad you brought this up to. I've been looking at sleep number to see if itd be the correct choice.
We have tried all sorts of traditional mattresses (with and without pillow top, and memory foam pillow top) as well as the box order memory foam mattresses. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. gets a body shaped divot in about a year. Said divot has me waking up every moment with back pain. Yet in each case, the divot is juuuuuuust under what is required to get it replaced under warranty. I have yet to find a mattress that holds up over time.
Anyways, that's why I was thinking about a sleep number. At the very least, you could blow it back up if you found it sagging (or it wouldn't do it in the first place). I can't possibly be the only person with this problem.

My Sister and her husband have one and they love it. My mom also has one that is older, so doesn't have the fancy app that gives you nightly sleep stats. The only thing I wonder with he sleep number and 'trenches' forming, is if the foam layers are what ends up being the problem, and not the air chamber/coils. I guess with the sleep number you can change out the air chamber, so maybe you can change out the foam layers if they start to give way?
We went to the store and briefly looked at the 'partial split' where only the top 40% splits. You have to buy their sheets for that, and their mattress pad. Add that to the $3k base to make use of the split, and the feet warming thing and you can approach $10 grand for a bed. FOR. A. BED. I think if we get one, we'll go the regular King, thank you very much.

I can vouch for that... Hated it, so we sold it pronto
I can vouch for that too. My wife and I call them "trenches" (we are both in decent shape, too, so it's not an 'overweight' problem). We are on our third mattress that has done it. We successfully had the two previous mattresses replaced under warranty, where they applied the previous purchase price to a brand new mattress. Three different brands and it's done the same thing, except we are now barely out of the original 10-year warranty, and have to start over - so we are considering the sleep number for the exact same reason you describe.

We use the spring mattress with memory foam for the upper padding. Solved the divot and support problem but has the comfort of the foam. Not sure the brand but my wife bought it on Wayfair and the price was middle of the road.

We had a Sleep Number bed about 6 years ago. I went the cheap route and bought a look-alike out of St Louis. It was a joke. Pump failed after two months. Paid $750 for the bed & they wanted me to send it back but I had to
pay for shipping (nearly $200)
I went & bought the Sleep Number (after wasting $750) and we hated it. It is two twins together so we “sunk” in the middle. After a couple of years, we went to a local store & bought a regular mattress.
Any advice on the Purple mattress? I have a friend who swears by it.

Thanks for so much input, I had to chuckle when I decided to post this because I thought I would have been heckled more. I have also slept on the Radisson sleep numbers back in the day and frankly I didn’t love them because they did feel like a glorified air mattress. I sleep well in most places as long as the environment is comfortable such as temp, noise and humidity are low. My better half struggles a lot with back and hip pain while sleeping so we stopped in the store and was somewhat impressed by the sleep number but it’s hard to justify nearly $8k on a somewhat gimmicky type bed.
