Since it seems others find themselves in the same predicament as me, I just wanted to throw up this brand that is completely modular. You choose between up to 4 different firmness layers and 2 foam types, then mix and match to get your preferred feel. Each side can be different. And if one layer starts sagging, you just buy a replacement layer rather than a whole new bed. I haven't yet found a bad review, other than that it can take a bit of experimentation to find the right combination.

I second the Tempurpedic, with a twist though- we have a regular spring mattress and bought the Tempurpedic mattress top for like $300. It’s just as good as the original mattress, at a fraction of the cost. Highly recommend it.

Get a nice / comfy couch too for your living room to fall asleep on 😁... Also good for when your wife puts you in time out or for when you are simply to tired to go upstairs.

pay for shipping (nearly $200)

I went & bought the Sleep Number (after wasting $750) and we hated it. It is two twins together so we “sunk” in the middle. After a couple of years, we went to a local store & bought a regular mattress.

Any advice on the Purple mattress? I have a friend who swears by it.
We've had one for about a year now, the hybrid. It's...ok. Yeah, just ok and I neither love it nor dislike it enough to get rid of it. I have suuuuuuuper bad lower back issues and it's been supportive enough to not make them worse and a majority of the time I don't wake up with a backache. I'm probably willing to attribute the days I do wake up sore to what I did the day before and not the mattress. Given the comparatively reasonable price for it's competitive set, I'd probably endorse it especially if your back isn't as jacked up as mine.

And the dog loves it. So there's that.....

Nolah Signature 12. Perfect firmness. They call it "moderate," but it feels quite firm without being too rocklike.
