Default MEC Chairman letter

I strongly disagree with ALPA putting a rep in scheduling to assist. Our MEC Chairman spins it to look good for Delta pilots, but it is not good. I have heard scheduling reps mention this in the past and say scheduling is wasting so much money thru scheduling errors. These errors result in pilots being paid with no flying obligation when they are caught by the pilot. So basically, ALPA is going to help scheduling do their job and take money from pilots. This is not a good trend or road to head down in my opinion. Obviously, we have another mgmt rep as our MEC Chairman now ..

So you’d rather the company continually violate the contract?

Ok. Does the same apply to Scope? Just let them violate it and get paid later?

The majority of the posts I have seen over the years say we want them to “honor the contract” and “stop illegal reroutes” and “they were not supposed to do that to me.”

We need to be consistent. Do we want them to honor the contract (QOL) or are we ok just getting paid off for not doing it?

Yes when it means we get paid for their mistakes. Scheduling mistakes or violations result in lots of extra pay when they are caught. Maybe ALPA should send extra reps out to catch these mistakes and notify pilots they are affected by a contract violation, and will now be compensated for this Company mistake. In the same letter we just received, it says their are so many scheduling grievances ALPA cannot keep up. Now they want to send a rep in to correct these issues before it happens. That means pilots will now receive less pay when scheduling makes a mistake and ALPA will assist them in this process. Who is ALPA working for, the pilots or management?

Not to sound condescending, but I’d rather not get an illegal reroute and home on time than chance a contract violation to get back pay 6-9 weeks later on in life. If people are banking on illegal contract payments to live, may wanna reevaluate things. This is a great idea and will avoid much needed stress for both sides.

Then why even have a contract?

Trash/treasure. One person might be ****ed to get an illegal reroute/assignment/whatever and miss little timmys 4th birthday. Another would be pumped they can buy Timmy a mini bike with the pay they get from it. We can all have an opinion on it. What does enforcing the contract mean? Prevent it from being violated in the first place? Have a “crack team” monitoring every leg/trip/assignment/etc? Inquiring minds...

UAL has this same setup. They have a scheduling expert that sits over at the Company.

The contract is fully enforced when they are caught making a scheduling mistake. I have been involved in several illegal reroutes in the past, and they result in thousands of dollars of extra pay. Like I said ALPA should focus on catching these scheduling mistakes instead of assisting mgmt to prevent the mistakes. I'm sure mgmt is all for ALPA assisting them. It will save them millions of dollars a year. They probably talk to each other and say can you believe ALPA is willing to do this for us..

Okay, but for every person who catches the mistake and gets paid extra, how many don’t and the company gets away with it?

I’d rather not have the contract violated in the first place.
