Post-COVID: Calling in Sick
Sick leave has been a hot topic since 2016 (and before). How does COVID change the culture? Will any “symptom” require calling in sick? Can we wear masks but come to work if we feel off? Verification? Will the company positively highlight those that go an entire career without using sick leave?
Thoughts?

I agree. Call in sick if you’re sick.
Holy cow, do we spend a lot of time “negotiating” sick leave language. Maybe that’s an incorrect perception, but I wonder if the company and/or the pilot group is going to approach this language differently in a post-COVID industry, and what implications that has to our group (more pilots, call from the CP for NOT calling in sick).

Why would you do this? If you are sick... you are sick. A mask won't make you not "feel off." Besides the risk of you spreading your "offness" to others (even with a mask there is still a risk), I don't want to have to fill out an ASAP because you weren't able to perform due to your symptoms.

Aren't we still supposed to be checking our own temperature every single day when on the line?
Simple enough: if you're feverish, call in sick wherever you are. How is this complicated? It's illegal to fly when sick.
(Wouldn't know, haven't flown for months)

That would be preferable to flying with “allergies”! At least it provides method of VID for sick leave abusers (ie pilots who don’t call in sick, thereby abusing MY sick leave). If I see some joker show up post COVID wearing a mask, I’ll just call in sick. It’s gonna end up costing me a few hours of sick leave either way. I’d rather be preemptive than reactive.

Always found it funny why they call it sick leave, when being sick is only one of six things you can call out for. Why don't they call it I am to drunk to come to work leave?
