There’s almost no 717 flying in DTW. I think only about 3 or 4 destinations. Unless they add some flying back it doesn’t make sense to add any pilots only to have to DH them to the flying.

Go look at DTW open time for May. A ton of trips start with a DH to pickup ATL flying.

DTW717 is a dead base walking. Moreover, not that many 717s in storage. Nearly half the fleet retired after COVID

Weren’t some “retired” 767 and 320s brought back into service?

Post Retirement Planes? When does the company announce a plan for PRPs and PRPs paired together to save the operation?

Could be worse, look at Lufthansa “CityLine” (their RJ carrier) somehow getting A340s for a time. Man for all the gripes I have here, this job is totally effed elsewhere in the world. Ryanair and the like with their staffing agencies have made it a gig job. Close your base? Everybody there is done. Retire your fleet? Surplus to requirements. It’s not often you hear Europeans praise US labor law, but I met a Ryanair guy who was quite well aware of both sides of the pond and would bite your hand off to be under the RLA!

Sorry that’s too O/T but at least it’s a break from the normal bickering of woke or covid.

The retired planes might not be coming back, but the 717 has been at a disadvantage in the COVID spacing program we’ve been operating in, by virtue of the 2x3 seating. On the 320 fleet, I’ve been flying the 321 on a majority of my trips. So in my opinion, we’ve needed bigger planes in most markets to provide the needed seats. I’d imagine when the seating restrictions are dropped, the 717 will find its place again, but whether or not the DTW base gets more love or not, I don’t know.

My understanding is that the 4 temporarily parked are parts birds. The rest can, and may, be brought back if needed for capacity. I still think DTW717 is on borrowed time.

Yeah they probably could just reup the leases with Boeing pretty easily

Why would they do that? I am guessing there is a backlog of inventory at Airbus and Boeing both not to mention all the carriers that have gone belly up.
