Toyota 4Runners are the unofficial state vehicle of Utah. Tend to hold their value well. Plenty of inventory to choose if you're looking to buy used. Run forever.

Kind of drive like a truck though, if handling is important to you.

Look at the Nissan NV, seats 12 but you can pull out (well maybe you can’t) any combination of seats you want. Has a V8, built on a 1 ton frame, and can tow 9,000 pounds. There are a couple of companies who do 4wd conversions on them too if that’s needed.

Have 3 kids and just bought our 2nd minivan. Toyota Sienna. It gets 33 mpg, extremely comfortable, drives well, and you can fit a ton of stuff in the back. Plus sliding doors - they are magical!

Look at the Volvo XC-90.
it's only a 7 seater though and a bit pricey but if you're posting on the mainline forums you can probably afford it.
Volvlos are known for their safety. Handles great, looks good and rides good. It comes in AWD and gets decent mileage.
Bit more maintenance than the Asian brands, but IMHO worth it

Whoever said pilots were a homogeneous group without diverse tastes was wrong. We like everything from Miatas to Minivans!!

As a car guy it pains me to say this but I gotta parrot what others are saying, get a minivan (Toyota Sienna or Honda Odyssey) and have a Miata on standby as your sanity escape car. You can’t beat the practicality of a minivan and the impracticality of a Miata, but both are vital to a balanced family life. Good luck.

Might I suggest three Miatas?

In all honesty check out the new Kia Carnival. Styling cues from the Telluride but more room.

Congrats on the 4th BTW!

We had a Ford Expedition. Pros, not a Mini Van! Turn radius was amazing, could whip into any parking lots. Small kids couldn’t “reach” each other (important). Would take it into the mountains, I even used it on a hunting trip to MT once. Wifey put 300K
hard miles with short trips trouble free.
Cons, mpg, third seat was for kids only.
