I don't think we are done with orders quite yet. Delta retired ALOT of planes last year and I don't think 25 321NEOs will come remotely close to covering it

Agreed. I had to reread it like 3 times to see what I missed. This hits some immediate need. But long term (5+ years) I’d expect to see MAX plus a new fleet type (787?).

Hopefully this is the case because 25 doesn’t come close covering what we have parked

Right. Wasn’t it something like 180+ MD88s and 18 777’s, right? DAL has a ways to go to restore all those seats.

Still it’s nice to have new orders. An old pilot once told me the the airline model goes: profits,> planes, > pilots. Let’s hope!

Airbus makes a superior product, at least from the passenger and commercial pilot end, and it’s no longer even close.(Your mileage may vary).

Interesting change of direction from a company known for at least a decade for grabbing the “low hanging fruit” (717s). Maybe the rumored “fire sale” of the MAXes didn’t materialize?
I think more are coming, we have new 110-130 seaters in the A220 and new 180-200 seaters in the 737-900, A321, and A321NEO but our 140-160 seat range needs work, MD88/90s retired, A320s are 20-30 years old and 737-800s are ~20. I think we will see a order for about 200 of either the 737Max8 or the A320NEO (or the A220-500 if that materializes) in the coming months

Stop it.

While Airbus definitely has an slight edge right now in the narrowbody market Boeing has a significant edge in the Widebody market with the 787 and 777 programs. Nearly every airline wants the 787 with its long backlog while Airbus has the 350 going for firesale prices

The A330-900 program is on death watch. They desperately need more orders. They will have to take some drastic measures if those don’t materialize soon. Delta alone can’t save the airframe.

The 88’s would have been gone by now regardless of Covid and we already had a bunch of airplanes coming to replace them. The 777’s - that’s a different story.
