That just removes incentive to get the pay section done.

The pay section is typically the easiest and LAST section done. Everything else is costed out by then, so I honestly don't think it matters......

disagree..I think what they’re tactfully saying is quit fixing sections or paragraphs 1 by 1 as time goes based on company needs. Company will never need to fix the pay section if we do that for them all along the way

So you think PS commuting (accomplished outside Section 6) is a bad thing? Many would disagree.

A good MEC will find opportunities for contractual improvements in many places, only some if which are within Section 6.

LOA 20-04 is a perfect example of improving our professional lives when the opportunity presents itself. I applaud our MEC and negotiators for getting it done.

^^^^This. Clearing chaff along the way vs twice a decade of (hopefully) up contracts

The fine art of successful negotiations is knowing when and how hard to push. Getting a couple improvements outside of section 6 during covid was a good move but at some point (especially when business returns) it will be smart to say no to side deals.

Default Restart of Contract Negotiations

Considering the actions of the company during initial negotiations in late 2019 (not wanting to negotiate) and the attempted scare tactic with the Mother of Displacements before VEOP, I don’t feel any good will at all when negotiations ramp up again.

Just curious where everyone stands on this. Comments?

100% agree, but I’m more concerned with the union’s vision for these negotiations since that’s the only thing we can really control or influence.

IMHO there's need to be some more distance between the Covid recovery and negotiations. We need the company to start making considerable money again, or at least have an extremely good outlook on things. I was of the opinion we had all the leverage going into C2019, and we lost a considerable amount of it (from a financial perspective) when the Covid thing happened. Mind you I think we have leverage in certain areas right now, scope, scheduling, training, etc, but still would like to see some upward movement from a financial perspective in Q3/Q4. I think we all know when negotiations do start they are going to be dragged out for a long time.

Our basis and strategy for the 3 billion dollar ask in the last attempt at the contract was the companies profitability. We will need a all new strategy. The company will remind the NMB about our prior position. Contrary to some posts I think we are 5 years away from the kind of profitability we were seeing. It will be interesting to see what the MEC uses for a strategy in the next round.
