I don't think there's any school district in the US that has Spring Break the 2nd week of May but...

Even if there was...

How does kids not being in school translate to cancelled flights?

I think this post was tongue-in-cheek regarding a previous poster blaming our Weekend Before Mothers' Day cancelation bonanza on Spring Break.

Delta OCC:

Days Since Major Meltdown: 14 with an X through it.

Oh well, tomorrow is a new start. Probably a thunderstorm somewhere in the country that they will blame for this one. Monday mornings cross divisional operations excellence team multiple silo meeting should have plenty to talk about.

Green slips, IAs, blah blah blah. Doesn’t matter. Every one has a point where they need a break.

Right, I was shaking my head a few weeks ago when people were trying to blame lack of crew on spring break in Boston or something. Made no sense at all.

Do the 737 and 320’s have a massive increase in flying in the summer? Someone told me they actually don’t get much of an increase during the summer compared to what they fly now.

I don't know if "massive" is the word i'd use but there is an increase in utilization as widebodys are pulled off domestic routes for international flying and narrowbodys are used to fill the gap.

Only one solution for this pilot shortage according to Lindsey Graham…increase the retirement age to 67. That will solve everything 🙄

Theoretically, yes they pick up more flying. The reality for 2022 is we are already redlined as demonstrated by cancellations. The only increase possible will come from a month or two worth of training on those fleets.

I wasn't responding directly to the mother days meltdown. However, I live in New England and we non-rev'd down to FL during the transition from Mass Spring Break to NH Spring Break....not just the city of Boston, we are talking entire states. I saw the oversold flights first hand...saw the delayed and cancelled flights in/out of FL first hand. It was a micro-snap shot of the bigger system....lots of demand for up/down the east coast during a two week period in April and we didn't have the pilots to support it. It does make sense.

Time to activate the People's Express 747's and just fly NY to Florida.
