Default Requal

Hello,

If someone were returning from a long term leave of absence, after say 10-11 months, my understanding is they would be put into the short requal syllabus. Absences greater than 12 months get the long requal syllabus. Is there a way to request the longer training footprint, even if you haven’t been gone for the full 12 months? The short requal training seems.. short. Extra training would be appreciated. Anyone have any experience with this?

email your CTC and ask. I was able to get extra training once, and a friend got a bunch of warm up sims after being out for a while due to NQAT

Training costs money… you get scheduled for what is required. If you don’t perform up to the required standard, you will get “extra” to get you to where you need to be. Do the distance learning and show up prepared and the training department will get you where you need to be. The short requal course is 3 days, but it’s only one student and a dedicated seat fill. You will be tired.

The Short Requal is an absolutely firehose. Just did mine after 11 months out (long story short did 44X, never got called for OE, 6 months Mil Leave) and never actually having flown the jet. I was offered the warm up sims which I took the company up on, which I fully recommend for anyone in the same situation. Day 1 you’re thrown right into the fire at full pace and fully expected to have all of your procedures/flows/FMS knowledge down cold.

The short requal is tough because it doesn’t account for time on the line. In your situation, having never flown the airplane, that absolutely sucks.

On the other hand, I’ve been out for 10-11 months on an airplane that I had thousands of hours in and it’s amazing how fast it comes back.

In the OP’s case I doubt there would be any pushback from requesting a couple of warm up sessions.

I did a short requal once for... well its a long story, but my partner and I both decided we weren't ready for the check ride and asked for another. No problemo. If you get the short course, tell them you want more rides if you aren't ready.

Are you all conflating requal after being on a different aircraft with not flying? After 11 months UNA my requal was a warmup sim and combination MV/LOE. There is also a short and long requal from being on a different. I know there is also a 3 sim short requal too.
