A very wise, true, and to-the-point post that should be written on the walls of every indoc classroom in every airline.

Crazy how it takes less than 1 year for 7ER capt and over 20 for 330/350 capt. I wonder if it’s such a drastic difference like that at UA/AA.

Any chance the ER might come back to dtw?

pay and flying are very different on the ER vs 330/350. That’s why.

no, the ER won’t be expanding into other bases. It will consolidate to 3 bases soon

And save your money/live below your means.

It’s comical and sad how many pilots need to pick up a green slip to pay for an unforeseen car repair or for Christmas presents.

Unless you're in the top 20% (30% in summer) in your category in NYC, you cannot touch Europe as part of your awarded line. You may get lucky with the swapboard if you're on it 10 times/day. And there's always reserve. So the majority of your flying will be MEX, BOG and domestic. Even Africa goes senior.

The domestic flying is not bad compared to the narrowbodies: 1-3 legs/day, lots of transcons, and the occasional FL penalty lap.

It's a far cry from "super premium widebody," where you can't fail bidding trip-wise.

I can only speak for NYC. YMMV.

There will be no more ER bases, only fewer ER bases.

there are others who don’t need to do so, but choose to because it’s an easy way to refill the ol’ savings account

but that doesn’t give you the moral superiority

Has the skill, attitude and experience to make it happen when he goes to training.
If it’s who I’m thinking of, and he briefly flew at QX, then he’s definitely sharp. I flew with someone like that at QX that went to Atlas 747, and now upgrading on the ER…and I’d ride with him any day of the week.

First initial is C, originally from SEA, lives in NYC. Might be the same one. Maybe I’m just attaching SKW to him since like 90% of the other people I fly with (that aren’t on the EDV magic carpet ride) came from there, lol.

Why do people keep acting like this is dangerous? These people will be flying ER’s to Florida and other short hauls out of Atlanta for years to come. We’ve been upgrading new captains at regionals for years now at minimum requirements which is a hell of a lot more difficult to shorter runways, longer days, and worse weather. But because of weight of 757/767 this is scary? It’s not like these people on ER are going to be doing much international, if any at all. More than likely if they snag one, the FO’s will be vastly more senior

I’m well aware that the flying between the ER and 330/350 can hardly compare. It’s basically glorified narrow body. Although the OP stating widebody capt in 20s isn’t technically incorrect, we all know they’ll basically be doing the 757 Florida shuttle and transcons as opposed to actual widebody flying (Europe/Asia) for years.

Was pay banding all the 767 variants to the top pay scale ever brought up/discussed with the negotiating committee?
