1976 Chrysler Cordoba bought in 1986. What a great car. Had a kid ride in the trunk when we hit max payload up front one nite in college in Baltimore. Flash forward about 30 years and I found another with 20k miles and my wife let me buy it. My kids (8 and 4 at the time) got their first driving lesson sitting
on my lap. Sold it to pay for new A/C for the house :(
My favorite Chevette story - I guy I worked with at Safeway used to tell the girls he had a “Vette”.

1981 Toyota Starlet

Powder blue 1987 Toyota Camry, purchased in 1991 with 70K miles. Total rolling birth control.

Problems:
1. Coolant temp sensor issues which made warm starts a PITA. Hot or cold, it would fire right up. Warm...crank forever until it would fire.
2. Flat spot on flywheel, so starter would intermittently grind. Always seemed to happen with attractive female in passenger seat which was admittedly rare.
3. Right front wheel bearing squeal. Started in turns only, then more frequent in straight line driving then went "bang!" one morning, lurched to right, and never squealed again. Didn’t ask questions.
4. Headlights would randomly fail at night which seemed to be related to...
5. Steering column catching on fire. Gotta love smoke boiling out of steering wheel. Slight rewire after that.

Traded it in in 1994 for a Dodge Neon which was positively excellent compared with that POS Toyota. Yes, that sounds strange writing it.

That must have been weird to type but its the truth. Dodge/Chrysler in the 1990s was putting out some decent cars. It seems like everyone i knew in college had a Dodge Neon and they seemed absolutely bullet proof. The second favorite car I've owned was a 1990 Dodge Dakota with the V6 and four wheel drive that I bought in 2001. Finally sold it in 2012. I still see Dakotas (and Neons for that matter) of that vintage on the road sometimes.
