Very different route profiles though. Over half of the BOS 320 departures are to ATL, DTW, and MSP. SEA has comparatively few hub departures on the 320, and has a lot of long legs to places like BOS, JFK, FLL, MCO, TPA, LIH, KOA, OGG, and (starting in May) HNL. The ASMs on the fleet are probably higher out of SEA. That being said, I firmly believe BOS will open eventually. I just doubt it happens until they can get the training churn to slow down. IMO, thats unlikely while we are still hiring 200 a month and they are having trouble filling ER A positions in NY.

Yes, it would "take" NYC pilots. However in doing so, it would also take those pilot positions while providing a very desireable (to some) base. Either way there would be some dust to settle. Short term, since it would be a new category open for anyone on anything to bid, it would increase training for a bit. Ultimately IMO it would reduce training, as it would be a net reduction in the evergreen NYC exodus because it would shrink NYC in the process proportionally, as well as being a net training reducer long term as it would provide a desireable base a certain number of existing pilots would want to bid and stay.
I think the company wants it and knows it will save them money in the long run. The main variable is shorter term training capacity.
