Holiday pay and bidding.

Did my bids over coffee yesterday. Purposely bid trips that got in on Memorial Day to grab the extra 5:15. I’m in the top 3% of my category, so I’ll most likely get one.
I’ve been wondering if holiday pay will alter the bidding habits of other pilots. Other than Christmas I really could care less about holidays.

You might need to new name as Memorial Day weekend is the start or boating season for many. :D

Op,
I agree. If the right 1-2 day trip is avail for me, I’ll bid it.
A 1-day on the designated holiday is now a GS without having to hit the trigger. 😁👍
and I am a senior bidder

But wait.....for the 20+yrs I've been advocating for holiday pay every contract negotiation, all I heard was that extra pay will never move the needle and senior pilots will still just avoid those trips and wait for a GS to go fly holidays.

I knew this was bunk, cause I've got a few friends at JB and they say that unless your in the top %% of the list, you can't touch a holiday trip there due to the added pay.

I'm glad my career has lasted long enough to see the holiday pay go into effect. Now those who fly the holiday, whether on purpose through PBS or by default through reserve will get a little extra for their troubles.

My memorial day GS will now pay even more...or disappear altogether. I'm hoping for the former, but expecting the latter.

Boating season ends? Oh wait, that only applies to non-commuters.

Doesn’t end here in SC, it’s just jacket and non-jacket season.
To answer my own question it doesn’t look like any of the pilots senior to me in my seat bid to pick up an extra 5:15 on 5/29.

Same in my category except for a high time turn on Memorial Day which went senior. I got a 3 day starting late on Memorial Day so I was happy with that. Bidding roughly 50%.

Plenty of the seniors did in my category. Just glancing through the first few pages of the bid awards, probably 40% working memorial day.

Very glad holiday pay is here.

Holiday bidding made a difference in ATL 320 A. Coverage started much lower than previous holidays.
