Anyone have info on good commuter hotels in Salt Lake? Cost, transportation, food options nearby?

Not a commuter, but I know the airport Fairfield is under $100 a night using the DLA code for Marriott. There's a Perkins next door (think more upscale Dennys with great pies). Hilton properties are about 50 more, but most have a restaurant in them.

StaffTraveler sometimes has good deals. There are lots of pretty decent hotels to the southwest of the airport that you can get under $100 with the discount.

Got the Embassy suites in MSP a few months back for 89 all in vs the 300 a night they were advertising

Things to keep in mind with SLC hotels especially in the winter is they fill up quick and during peak times I’ve even had them not honor the crew rate for me. Also I’ve noticed it seems to be pretty hard to get fully commutable trips unless you are pretty senior… YMMV

When I was commuting there, (up until Covid), I used the Airport Inn. It was REALLY cheap, (like 50 dollars before tax in Jan of 2020), but it was not a nice place for sure. It was decently clean, but for sure not the cleanest place around. However, the staff was really nice and catered to airline crews. They would give me late check out and early check in most of the time. Van drivers were really good and they gave airline crew free hot breakfast (like real eggs and bacon). You would need to verify all this because I haven't stayed there since Covid and I think they shut down for awhile during that period.

I used to stay there all the time as well. They were very nice and it was clean enough for the limited time I had to spend there. I just looked it up. It has been turned into a homeless shelter.

So its a crashpad then? Know how much per month?

I’ve been commuting there since 2016, and always stay at one of the Hilton properties, usually the Doubletree or the Tru, but sometimes the other ones (Hampton, Garden Inn, Homewood). I pay more to get the points and the Diamond status, but I stay were I like, not what’s cheapest. And the points come in handy during Sundance and some of the other big weekends. All the rooms in town go for about $350 on those weekends, so I just use my points if I need to get a hotel. And if you back up your trips and have a bit of time, go to the Garden Inn downtown. They’ll pick you up and you have lots of food and drink options. The airport is a desert for food and drink. I guess the locals are afraid that us outsiders might find a bar really tempting, so the only thing serving about thirty hotels is a Perkins. Seriously. The Doubletree and the Sheraton both have a decent bar/food option, but other than that, it’s grab something at the airport, or Star of India DoorDash. I’m one of those guys who put commuting into perspective…it’s my choice to spend an hour of my trip pay to stay where I want, so I can live where I want. The Airport Inn was $54, and lots of guys went there to save money, and had it paid for before they took the runway. I’d rather wait until the climb check to pay for my hotel, and actually like it. But that’s just me.
