Random Screening
Random Screened today out of uniform. Guess what? New policy is you have to take your shoes off! So they trust aircrew less than pre check. Makes sense right?

Have no fear, it will soon be gone anyway. |

Well in uniform and “random” you qualify as Precheck, out of uniform guess they can’t extend the same courtesy.

Was this in TPA? I'm hearing that was a recent change for the TPA folks because whomever is in charge down there, hates KCM. With a Federal program like this, it seems there shouldn't different requirements at different stations. It has never made sense to me that we're treated differently out of uniform even while traveling for work, completely illogical. With the backtracking required at DTW and the closing of the Westin KCM, I just now go through the employee line downstairs. It's much faster, especially with how many times I was "randomed" earlier this year.

Not TPA. But yes it seems like the local boss can do whatever they want. Seems they really don’t like crew traveling out of uniform.

Then you're good to go through precheck and keep shoes on. It's always been the policy to take liquids etc from pilots who aren't in uniform who get randomed. But every time it happens people act like TSA is going rogue or something. It's annoying and dumb but I always go through TSA in uniform if I have liquids. And if I'm traveling for fun I only bring the small liquids in case of a random.

While I don't disagree about the outrage from time to time, this appears to be different. Shoes off, belt off, etc... (stuff they haven't normally done before. They're also being pulled aside and having paperwork being done when their stuff is confiscated. Dumb. |
