Here is a pragmatic approach to the pink tie. If you wear it, the FAs immediately become pleasant to you and it starts the leg off nicely. I have found it to be a great positive ice breaker with them (obviously speaking mostly of the women).

It’s a virtue signal, but it is a mostly positive one in my eyes as it brings people joy to see the support.

While this is a great approach, breaking the ice with FAs should not be an issue. A simple Hello, smile, my name is XXXXX how are you doing works 99% of the time.

I think the point of the pink tie isn't so much to "demonstrate awareness" as it is to, you know, purchase the darn tie so $$ may be donated to the charity.

Kinda roll my eyes when I see a 10 year old pink tie on someone making close to a half million a year.

You never know though; could just be recycling the tie and donating on the side every year.

New ties make poor soup!

Absolutely true. I’m referring to the other 1%. I generally do well with my FAs. I like buying coffee and being pleasant. Some are hard to please and I have found the tie helps getting them on the same team. That said, I would wear the tie anyways because it shows support for the fight against cancer in general in my opinion.

Agreed 1000%. BTW where's everyone getting those fancy pink ties with the square pattern design? Looks sharp

I’m a cancer survivor. My dad did not survive his. My mom did. A good high school friend died young from a rare cancer. I bet many of us have stories like this. Our local breast cancer fund-raising run changed to a Run for Cancer….very inclusive. I’d like to see ties of various colors to represent cancers that have affected each of us most. That said, I support breast cancer research, along with all the others.

Not to mention I have to believe that research in any cancer leads to developments in treating all cancers. If it takes tatas to move the needle on getting people to invest in finding cures/treatments then so be it.
