Probably more than you think, a NYC 330 friend of mine who commutes now has 1-2 more commute a month to NYC. Why? Because he was doing six day trips JFK-XXX-BOS-YYY-JFK but now the Boston base does them.. so he's left with 3 day trips, and has more commutes (or hotels) solely because of the new base.

For that matter, across the entire system there are a decent number of layovers in other bases. |

They have the ability to jump equipment every flight as well. Their rotation construction isn’t nearly as limited as ours is.
also, side note, but I believe we are the only big pax airline in the US that has 5 day domestic trips. I personally would love if those went away or got severely limited. Part of me wonders if we make contractual changes to shorten our trips if that would change the calculus and drive a few more bases. |

Glancing at the bid pack, there are still plenty of 6-day W trips in NYC 330. Most have mid-rotation layovers in other 330 bases. The company loves them because they’re credit killers. Paying for another hotel room in a base doesn’t phase them.

6 day intl trips are not a good thing. They reduce credit and give pilots far fewer options. When they are broken up they can be nice, but if they all went away that would be a net positive for our group.
