More good comes to the pilots living in BOS than some dudes trip. He’s the minority on this one. More bases are always a positive. BOS is designated a hub just like NYC, no reason it shouldn’t have a base

Glancing at the bid pack, there are still plenty of 6-day W trips in NYC 330. Most have mid-rotation layovers in other 330 bases. The company loves them because they’re credit killers. Paying for another hotel room in a base doesn’t phase them.

For that matter, across the entire system there are a decent number of layovers in other bases.

sure, and that likely leads to more bases for them, but it still would track that the fewer bases we have, the longer our average trip would be. And thus more bases would likely lead to shorter trips on average.

also, side note, but I believe we are the only big pax airline in the US that has 5 day domestic trips. I personally would love if those went away or got severely limited. Part of me wonders if we make contractual changes to shorten our trips if that would change the calculus and drive a few more bases.

6 day intl trips are not a good thing. They reduce credit and give pilots far fewer options. When they are broken up they can be nice, but if they all went away that would be a net positive for our group.

Agreed. I hated them when I was a WB FO, even as a commuter.

Looks like some great news for Delta’s expansion at Austin!

Meh, only 15 gates vs 26 for SW… lol.

So much for the mega expansion needing a pilot base. 🤣

????

I saw SWA gets 18 gates, all in the new terminal. We get 15 gates, in the existing terminal. Where does it say in the article SWA gets 26?

So SWA = 18, DAL = 15 at AUS

26 is the total number of new gates in concourse B. Of those, only 18 are SWA’s.

The only certainty is that if everything falls into place perfectly and Delta opens a small hub in AUS, Flight Ops will spend years rationalizing why it doesn’t need to open a pilot base.

Where's Rip when you need him to give us the down low on the new AUS pilot base?
