How do you process a new MEL?

Jumpseated on a 73 flight and a MX came up after blocking out and was curious how you guys process a new MEL?

I might be missing something since I obviously don't know anything how you all do things but I only saw that the MEL was added to the logbook and that was it?

Do you not need a new release after the MEL?

Some items require a new/amended release. Some of the very minor ones don't. The MEL manual will tell you what requires dispatch approval and what doesn't .

Ah interesting. I'm not delta so I wouldn't know. I thought it was a common practice across the board that everything was added.

Well the nice thing now about getting our release via an app is that the concept of "needing a new release" is kinda obsolete. If a new MEL gets put in the system, it's usually automatically updated on the release app in the aircraft discrepancies. Often times the dispatcher knows without me even messaging them on ACARS.

to add, the amended release can be pushed as an acars message “amend release to show MEL XX” we Wilco that and it’s done
