SLC QOL

Hello all! I am a new hire here and will be going to indoc soon. I currently commute out of DEN and plan bidding to SLC. It has been available for the past couple of class drops.

My question: what is the flying like in SLC on the 73N, 320, 220? Just looking for general pairings info - trip length, % of commutable trips, legs/day, overnights, seniority in each equipment, etc. TIA!

Posted a long reply, realized you're a commuter, deleted.

Bid the 737.

Go on the ALPA app and see what you're up against, commuting wise.

Welcome to hell. (If you're a commuter. Living in base is an upgrade on par with the 4th stripe. Which you won't get in SLC for a long, long time on any aircraft)

Welcome! The 220 is the most junior fleet with the best movement.

Below is a snippet from the April bid pack. Mind you, those numbers will fluctuate throughout the year. I'd definitely pick the 220 if I planned to commute to SLC.

The most junior captain in SLC is a 2023 hire on the 220. It'll realistically take you 8-10 years to get there. On par with other narrowbody fleets/bases.

320 – 28% commutable both ends, commutable starts are 69% and commutable ends are 57%.
906 trip count
o 1 day trips = 7%
o 2 day trips = 23%
o 3 day trips = 25%
o 4 day trips = 30%
o 5 day trips = 15%

220 – 56% commutable both ends, commutable starts are 75% and commutable ends are 80%.
1226 trip count
o 1 day trips = 16%
o 2 day trips = 25%
o 3 day trips = 23%
o 4 day trips = 21%
o 5 day trips = 15%

73N – 24% commutable both ends, commutable starts are 51% and commutable ends are 68%.
656 trip count
o 1 day trips = 6%
o 2 day trips = 19%
o 3 day trips = 30%
o 4 day trips = 27%
o 5 day trips = 18%

Stop the commuter Doom and gloom. Over half the airline commutes

Half of the air line commutes from Denver. The other half commutes from Florida. The last half commutes from "other."

Very helpful, thanks! I'm assuming you'd recommend bidding equipment first with the assumption of being awarded a base transfer pretty quickly?

I've been commuting to ORD for a long time; currently junior reserve in the left seat. There are few things worse so I'm not too worried about it.

That's what I'd do. No matter what, you're looking at a single leg commute from Denver...220 is in SEA, MSP, NYC, and SLC.

The probability of getting your preferred base by the time you finish OE is high.

Yup. At one time, 10% of the whole pilot base commuted from Denver. Countless FA’s.

Haven’t looked lately tho.
