Airport Hilton security
Hello All,
Just a PSA here, apparently, this is a known issue, but I didn't know about it until my car got stolen. During my time at the Hilton, there were two incidents in which multiple cars were broken into, and mine was broken into and stolen. Fortunately, I was able to get my car back as I could locate it on the vehicle app. While I was waiting for another unit to arrive to take me to my car, I stayed in the patrol vehicle with the officer providing security at the hotel, and she told me some interesting things (I haven't verified any of the following): She said that because of the size of the parking lot in the rear of the hotel, one unit couldn't secure the entire parking lot (the parking lot is approximately 650'X200'), and there is an additional parking area in front of the hotel. She said the people breaking into cars are part of an organized criminal ring. They place lookouts at the location, and the lookouts communicate with the people breaking into the cars via radio to alert them of the patrol cars' movements. At the Hilton, there is a patrol car there 24/7, and the criminals wait for the car to rotate to the other parking lot and then hit the unmonitored lot. She said the DALPA pays for a single patrol car to be at the Hilton 24/7, but that two additional units would be needed to secure the property. She advised me to take the valuables out of my car and leave the doors unlocked so that criminals may try to open the doors before breaking the windows. She also mentioned, "You all are crazy for walking back to the hotel late at night." There is a shuttle that runs from the training center to the Hilton until 1:30 am. After my car was stolen, I parked at the training center lot. I think that is the only way you can be sure your car doesn't get damaged. I do know that the company is aware of this issue, as they contacted me after my car was stolen. |

At this point, we should just build a hotel above the Credit Union and attach a bridge like all the other buildings. |
Our dues money is paying for a patrol car at a company training hotel? Isn't that the company's responsibility?

It fascinates me that Delta continues to house crew members in these hotels and that we even maintain a training center there. |
Nothing new or surprising about any of this, except that ALPA absolutely does not sponsor hotel security.
That sucks about your car. I would never leave a personal vehicle in those lots. I thought that was common knowledge. |
Sorry about your loss and thanks for sharing.
--------------- My past experiences in the ATL area led me to regularly use "The Club". Not perfect, but a deterrent. A better, more expensive deterrent might be "Disklok". Covers the entire wheel. Pros can still get it open, but not as quickly. All part of living in a major US city I'm afraid. Some cities more than others; that part of ATL is definitely up there. |
I wonder if the new hires get briefed about this? 😂

Hate that for you my man, but this seems to be more and more prevalent. Posts of FB said that they target trucks/SUVs because they think there is a higher chance of finding weapons. My car survived a month at the Hilton this year, but it's a 20 year old compact car that is losing it's color lol. I parked out front right by the entrance every night and never left anything in the car. I was fully prepared to walk down to a broken window one morning. I was down there a few years ago when a bullet entered the room of another Delta pilot a few doors down from my room. Great place to be...
