Don't hold me to someof this, and I am sure someone will correct me soon.

Yes, for the month of training, the rest of your reserve obligation will be prorated. If you have CQ, I think it knocks off one day. IQ, your OE will count towards your reserve obligation. (that's the part I am not sure of)

Cq counts as "on call" days. Recommend bidding one day of availability before and after training. Five "on-call" days wiped out with minimal exposure.

There is a link to a calculator on the first page of the bid package. That spreadsheet will show you your guarantee and how many x days you will have for the month.

Like Drank said, the training will count as oncall days so you can usually put a day on before and after making them relatively useless. BTW, vacation doesn't count as an "off period" for the month unless you get x days next to it, then it is included as one of your "off" periods and will follow the rules.

Just as an aside, once you look at that calendar, you will see that it is often advantageous to bid reserve during a vaca/trng month vs a line. Oncall days per guarantee vs flying a line makes reserve a much better deal.

I think this is inaccurate... I am pretty sure CQ is training pay and gets your available on call days pro-rated, just like vacation / mil leave / other training. I am also not sure you can just put an on call day by itself on either side... PBS won't award and icrew won't let you move stuff that creates less than 3 days of reserve unless its the end of a bid period.

Not 100% sure, but I had 4 years on MD-88/DC-9/717 reserve, mostly as a commuter, so I had a lot of trial and error for bidding and moving days around.

Best bet, call Jerry at ALPA in our scheduling dept. He is super duper smart and will tell you where to look in the contract as well.

This month I have CQ and was able to get one day on call before and two days after.... and I'm in an international category which usually requires 4 oncall days in a row. You are right about the proration though.
It may only allow that on the initial bid though, and not through PCS. I haven't tried to move days into that situation, just initial bids which works well in the winter.

Huh. Yeah that sounds reasonable as far as initial bids vs PCS moves. Or maybe I am totally wrong. Jerry knows... thanks for the correction. I am pretty certain about the proration part.

Went over tgiving. We have 3 kids, we like have multiple bedrooms. Helps sanity, so as nice as staying in resort would be, not an option for us. We found a nice 3 br condo for less than 100 night.

This is very much off topic, however…

Does anyone have the contact info of the pilot & his wife in PTC who have that SAT practice & score improvement tutoring service? Any positive experiences? Thanks!

Guys,

No thinking or phone call required. Just access the Reserve Calculator Spreadsheet and all your questions will be answered. This is the first thing I do every month that I have reserve. It will account for training, vacation, leap year , etc.
