Question - say one was awarded the 350 in this initial bid, but because it will be a year long bid most likely, they didn't train until the fall. Does the 2 year seat lock start from the day of the award or the day you convert?
If they are really planning that massive of a 350 bid this will get crazy. I am starting to wonder how they are going to do it with the C series

Yeah, I am also wondering about the timelines overlap. DAL might need 80-150 A350 dudes while 747 is still not parked.

Date of the award per 23.A.7.b of the contract.

Remember, under our new PWA, the one year conversion window only comes into existence if there are displacements (23.D.11) and they only get to do it once in a calendar year.

With a 365 day conversion window from May, I'll bet there won't be much overlap if the 747 is really gone by the end of the year. Between now and May 2018 there are 15 747 A's turning 65. I suspect they will take a displacement bid and then either get bypassed or retire just before going to training (or even in training:eek:). Heck, that's what I'd do....

You can't bypass a displaced pilot so you will not see that option. I doubt you will see many retire either. What you will see is a lot of pilots going out on disability. There is a window for the next few years where disability will be far more lucrative option than even a pilot with a full NWA retirement. Many will take the displacement and wait until a class date begins. They will go out sick at that point and between sick and DPMA pick up full pay for 15 months and then revert to disability boosted an extra 4 grand a month by the PS and retro.

You are Naive! Not to mention when you get over 55 all many pilots need to do is be honest at medical time. Those that don't have a medical issue will create one. It was very lucrative for former Pan Am pilots to go disability rather then retire. probably 3 out of 4 went out disabled. Some guys have no trouble at all looking themselves in the mirror doing that kind of stuff. I really admired some of the Pan Am guys who retired and left a 100,000 a year on the table. It's called character and some had it.
