Anyone, besides me get an e-mail from DELTA stating irregularities with employment/flight time on their app? Or am I the only dummy that got this message or something concerning their app? I heard that u go under the microscope before being called. Thanx

Codguy 05-08-2007 07:51 AM

Polly-

Got that very same e-mail about two weeks ago stating that I had a period of unemployment on my application that was otherwise unaccounted for. When I checked, there was a 30 day gap in employment showing due to military change of station orders. I adjusted my dates accordingly to close the gap and updated.

Got an e-mail invitation to interview less than a week after I "fixed" it.

polly 05-08-2007 07:59 AM

Thanx Codguy, Its been 2 weeks for me as well, but no invite yet. Good luck to you, I hope you get it.

Guard Dude 05-08-2007 07:03 PM

Codguy and Polly...& everyone,
The HR folks go over your application in detail with you, at least mine did. In fact my HR dude had questions and notes already written on paper. Make sure it is as perfect as you can make it; Proofread over and over. I made corrections/changes right up until the "two day limit" before the interview. The first fifteen minutes of my interview was spent going over my application line by line. Planning ahead, I had several of my own copies, including the one they tell you to bring. My HR dude had printed his own copy. So I pulled out my own copy of the app to follow along with his line of questions. Just made it easier than trying to read upside down. For example, I had about a dozen addresses. He asked me to explain every one and why I moved so much. I gave him a run down "why I moved there" and then "why I moved from there". Most of the moves were Military training (UPT, CIQ, ACQ). Once he heard that, he was happy and we moved on to the next page.

FWIW, I had a retired airline pilot give me some perspective on the app: If you have to make changes on it at the interview, they think you're hiding something or lying. If you have mistakes like spelling, then you don't care about the job.

Hope this helps.

Good Luck!!!

Guard Dude,

With this in mind, I've done this to the app, but I've noticed little mistakes on 3 of the 5 recs I have on file. Do you have any idea how this is perceived by Delta? I'm assuming there is nothing I can do about that. Great recs otherwise.

polly 05-09-2007 10:27 AM

Got the call, fill u in when I get back

LOBO 05-09-2007 10:40 AM

In airlineapps.com did yall include every base you were ever stationed at (i.e. training) or just the ones your were permently assigned to in the Employment History?

I'll be interested in this question as well. I put my entire time in the Navy under present employer and didn't break it up based on duty station. I used my SF86 form and added all my previous employment prior to my military history in the work history section. What do you guys think? Break it up by duty station...or does it matter?

Rhino Driver 05-09-2007 11:49 AM

Polly,

How long after you get the call do you have before you go in for the interview? I'm assuming all interviews are done in ATL. Anybody know of anything different?

polly 05-09-2007 12:57 PM

I got the call yesterday, and I am interviewing 24MAY-25MAY, you have a choice even into JUNE. They are not interviewing Memorial Day week. jetBlue called today while all my kids were screaming I set up for June 8. When it rains it pours. And yes mine is in ATL.

LOBO 05-09-2007 01:00 PM

I got the call the last week in Apr and they offered me anytime in May to set up the interview.

Codguy 05-09-2007 02:31 PM

Rhino-

For what it's worth, I broke my Naval Service up into separate duty stations. For me that wasn't too hard as the 10 year history they ask for only included my FRS Cat I through DH tour (and not the 6-8 months here and there in P'cola, Corpus, Meridian etc).

Personally speaking (someone please correct me if I'm incorrect), since they want you to list a 10 year address history, you probably should break up your employment history so they mesh up as accurately as possible IMHO.

Rhino,
I know what you mean about a rec's mistakes. I guess it is what you can live with from what they type. I noticed a pretty big mistake from one of my rec's and told him about it. He said he would correct it. So I had to delete his original comments and re-submit his email address so he could write another one.

LOBO,
I had my formal training schools (UPT, CIQ, & ACQ) match my addresses. However, I did not include my Oman, Saudi, Iraq, Uzbek, and Afghan bases individually. The biggest thing is not to show a break between any addresses or any break between employers. Good Luck!

Guard Dude 05-09-2007 07:10 PM

Codguy, Polly, LOBO:
Congrats on getting the email/call. Good Luck on your interviews! :D

Rhino Driver 05-09-2007 07:14 PM

I second that gents. Best of luck!;)

For what it's worth, talked with AirApps people this morning and they said they prefer to have your mil history in one lump sum. I then read the instructions and it ask for your ENTIRE work history, not just the past 10 years. I think Guard Dude said he broke it up and he's in like Flynn. It probably doesn't make that much difference, but then again, what do I know? ...I'm about to be umemployed!

MayFly135s 05-10-2007 02:55 PM

Got the nod for an interview today as well! Any rumors on the equip/domicile breakdown for the new hire classes?

FWIW I broke my military/employment history up by base so it would match my address history. Then listed the primary squadron I was assigned to as my company. Put any additional job info in the Duties section.

So Wonwee 05-10-2007 03:35 PM

I talked with HR at a job fair and I am pretty sure they said to break it up by assignment.

The earliest date for interview offered yesterday was the 17th.

When do you find out equip/domicile? At the interview or during indoc?

For those that got job offers, how soon are you starting?

Ok guys,
I have been using info off this site for a couple months now and got some great gouge so its about time I returned the favor......

I got the job with Delta and waiting for a start date. From what I gathered from the interview they want you to break up your time in the service. I basically treated each PCS as a job change and matched up the address. They went through each one with me during the HR part.

I was told to expect late June/ early July for a start date. They talked nothing about equip/domicile at the interview, but buddies have told me you find out the first couple of days indoc. Hope the last four of your SSN is a low number. Apparently they base your senority in the class off that.

Congrats on the interview....

Rhino Driver 05-10-2007 05:44 PM

Congrats Hornet! Hope you get what you're looking for. What's your duty station? Best of luck. How long have you been in this process with DAL?

Getting Closer

Hey All,
I could not take it anymore. So, I called the HR Dept. this morning. It has been just over two weeks since my interview. Talked to AG and was told I was cleared for training as long as the PRIA paperwork checks out. I don't see a problem there since all my flight history is Military. So I guess I "sort-of-officially" have the job. She said expect the next call to be from someone with a training date. So I guess I will "sort-of-celebrate" this weekend. I am playing Mr. Mom for a couple weeks (wife deployed overseas with her Guard unit). So my daughter and I will celebrate at Chuck E. Cheese! Looking forward to the first day of training!!!:)

Just some FYI stuff: Talked to a dude that got the job offer the same day I did. He has heard there may be two new hire classes in June (only a rumor right now). Anyone heard the same thing? Same dude also mentioned that the HR dept. likes to give new hires around 21 days of advance notice for training. I thought this might help someone for planning purposes if you want to give an employer a two week notice. (I'm a big "don't burn any bridges" type of person)

Good Luck to all!!!

WarEagle28 05-11-2007 03:12 PM

Guard Dude,

How far in advance from your availability date did you receive an interview?

Thanks!

Ripeagle 05-11-2007 03:24 PM

Hey guys - does Delta have domiciles at both LGA and JFK? Are they junior or senior bases? Thanks.

WarEagle,
I received the interview email around the second/third week of March. I had to choose an interview date toward the end of April due to current job commitments and interview prep time for myself. I had a May availability date. So, to answer your question, a couple months from the "interview email" to availability date given, give or take a week. Hope this helps.

Guard Dude

"sort-of" congrats! I heard tonight that the latest "bid" to come out has 120 'new-hires' for MD88 in ATL and about 80(?) on the 73 - not sure of the numbers or the time frame. Anyone know where the 737 bases are?

120 on the 88, 40 on the 800. All ATL.

As I understand it you cover all three bases. The official domicile is NYC. Most of the trips are between JFK and LGA. There are fewer trips originating in EWR. I'm ATL based so I'm sure someone will chime in if I'm off. If you get a crash pad, I think Kew "Q" Gardens is equal distance from LGA and JFK if you plan on using public transportation. NYC is a Jr base, but lately guys are saying LAX is a jr base because you have to cover four airports, but I have not seen any evidence to support that.

Great point Tom. The dude that got the job offer with me did ask the question specifically so he could give his current employer a two week notice. I am sure the "21 day notice" is a SOP for the Pilot Hiring Office in a "perfect world". However, push come to shove a new hire dude/dudette should be ready to go on short notice.

BTW: BCDurbin & Tom, thanks for the heads up on assignments. Great info! I am hoping for ATL. Are crash pads easy to find in ATL?

Skyone 05-11-2007 11:25 PM

Guard Dude and others,
Congrats on getting the job. Spent 25 great years there. Had to retire early for pension reasons. But the people and flying were always always first rate. Also what makes it fun is the diversity from narrow body to wide body to domestic to international. Lots to look forward to, not just getting in the right seat of a narrow body and the only thing to look forward to is upgrade on the same aircraft.

If you don't mind a small piece of advice from an old dog, don't give up the Guard or Reserves. One: small protection from possible furlough. Two: Continues to be a great way to network. Three: What I thought was going to be beer money from the reserves at age 60 has now turned into a major part of my retirememt (Tricare and money). It can be a pain to bid around reserve weekends, but in the end, worth it, IMHO.

WarEagle28 05-12-2007 02:20 AM

Guard Dude,

Thanks, it was exactly the information I needed.

Ripeagle 05-12-2007 03:41 AM

Thanks for the info. I live in NYC and after commuting to CVG as a regional guy, really want to be EWR/LGA/JFK based. QOL is huge.

Crash pads in ATL are plentiful. You can do it with or without a car. IMO you'll have better QOL if you have wheels. If you don't have a car there are a ton of crash pads within walking distance, about 1/2 mile, from the training center. As far as getting to work there are three hotels, well, two hotels that will let you ride as long as you tip a buck. The Comfort Inn & Suites and the Wellsley (sp?) Inn. We ditched the Holiday Inn express and they are somewhat bitter so they won't let Delta people ride UNLESS you are staying there. The hotel shuttles run to the airport every half hour or on request. Within walking distance of the crashpads are plenty of restaurants and you might have to hike a slight bit, but there is a grocery store also. You might also try crash pads. com. Many people have commuter signs posted in front of their homes. Good luck.

Eagle, you would have a great QOL by virtue of living in the NYC area. It's, for the most part, our junior base. Not having to commute gives you a huge leg up for bidding puposes. Additionally, a new bid came out yesterday for 20 more 767ER captains and 40 more F/Os at JFK.

A couple of new hires just got 767ER F/O positions. These are real F/O positions; DL doesn't use a dedicated relief pilot. In other words, you'll get to land the airplane. I think that even the junior guys would agree that the ER flying is good. Our worst trips are the London trips: JFK-LGW-JFK with a 24 hour layover, flown with only 2 pilots, and worth 15:15. Expect to see alot of that if you're junior.

If you are on the MD88, you'll may see alot of shuttle flying (LGA), but, as a local, you are also in a prime spot to get the numerous Florida turns (from JFK and LGA?) that most commuters don't want.

I'm among the throngs commuting from CVG to JFK for the ER and can understand your desire to not do that commute anymore- it sucks!

tankerpuke 05-12-2007 07:19 AM

Guard Dude - any chance you could PM me for some specific "Guard related" questions? Thanks for the info and insight. Good luck to all!!!

BubbleEyes2 05-12-2007 08:53 AM

Just got a letter yesterday assigning me 88 in JFK. I don't even start orientation till Monday. That's pretty quick on the assignment! I'm already in ATL, so I'll be bidding back here or CVG (later obviously) to get out of JFK. Hey, CVG767A, you said the commute sucks to CVG, is it a lot better to ATL, do you know? I'm excited to hear all of the cheerleading this week. It's pretty exciting post emergence.
