Does it really make any sense to pull down ATL, the most profitable hub?

We can probably shift some of the flying with no impact on profitability, which would allow for more on time departures/arrivals and better lost luggage figures.

beer 12-09-2009 10:16 AM

I bet we are all sitting on the couch, watching fox news and posting one liners so we could hit that 20000 post mark. I for one am an APC addict!!! ACL is the dealer and he gets all the repeat business.

They are not pulling down the flying in the hub, just personnel.

For a second lets just think.

Putting 767 flying on the 755 makes a lot of sense as the will be ER pilots, we are transitioning to an all ER category and these guys in DTW will be ER as soon as they have their bounces. It save a ton of training cost on TOE!

Just because they transfer flying to a different hub doesn't mean they are cutting flights in ATL. We could still fly the time only thru Atlanta instead of starting and finishing there.

Denny

With 100 slots, probably a 2001 or a 2007 hire.

Sign me up!! I'll be the plug on the 777.

Denny Crane 12-09-2009 10:26 AM

The 16th for the AE bid sounds about right to me. 14 days to close because they said more time was to be given on this one......wait a day and half to post and, voila, it's Jan 1.

Denny

I am not a betting man, but my guess would be the results would be out on the 4th. Allows for a Thursday start for tng in feb.

beer 12-09-2009 10:32 AM

What if GUM is already a done deal and they are waiting to release the details as they put out the AE!!! And to top that, they are going to operate a daily crew shuttle there so we wont have to move. All slot will be filled with inverse seniority.

Sorry....sometimes I sleep type.

Has anyone actually heard GUM from management, or is this just an APC thing?

Yes, we need to pull back in Atlanta. Atlanta is too congested and we no longer offer a consistent and reputiable product because of it. Enter exhibit A which is hot off the press.

Atlanta Metro News*| ajc.com

I hear all the time from friends and family that they dread going through Atlanta. Even people in my reserve unit complain when they get a goverment ticket connecting through Atlanta.

The councourses are very small and cramped. The workers there, and I'm from the South, have lost that southern hospitality. I've heard and witness gate agents say words to passengers such as "Oh well" and the ever so enflaming "what-ever".

Only in Atlanta do I see people who are connecting running to their next gate. And I see it everytime I'm there. Then throw in 4 gate changes (that's my personal record), and you quickly start to see how we are ****ing off our customers.

We can offer a better product. The on-board timing through ACARs was a start in the right direction, but it is going to take much more than that.

To quote a public source, our Director of Crew resources stated that they were looking at a base there in the crew room visit about a month ago.

Guess what DTW is your answer, and it is a great backup to ATL, without the O and D issues. Great airport in a crappy city.

I wonder if that will be on this bid?

YES! Like shifting that flying to the friendly on-time LAX.

80ktsClamp 12-09-2009 10:44 AM

Straight from the "horse's mouth," so to speak... the bid will be coming out on friday.

"Significant" displacement from ATL767 and ATL765. He is attending a briefing tomorrow and will put out information to the LCP's/AQFO's on that shortly after in anticipation of a flood of phone calls and emails .

Makes sense. Thanks.

Looking at the orientation stuff, saw an older photograph where the pilot had on a white hat...why don't we go back to the white hats?:)

Like Pan Am?

iceman49 12-09-2009 11:06 AM

No, it looked like a DL pilot in front of a DL aircraft.

Bah... Romulus ain't so bad. :)

On a side note, stuck in the hotel watching the 2009 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame concert on HBO. Well worth the time for any music people out there....

Where is the flying time going? NYC, elsewhere or up in smoke?

Well darn skippy, looks like the intel was correct. Crap.

As I was told, they flying is going no where, the staffing is going to NYC in the 765's case and the 767 flying is going to the fat staffed DTW 755 (7ER post SOC) They added 60 slots to an over staffed 755 category in DTW last bid.

As I stated it makes sense as they will become ER pilots overnight at SOC and require none of the TOE/WWO crud that we southies do now.

We'll see. I've heard it may go and help the DTW 755 overstaffing situation from a certain reliable source. :) Regardless, another step to the elimination of the ATL767 category.

A briefing on it will be put out tomorrow... I'll relay as open information comes available.

And yep ACL, spot on as normal. :) How about some good spot on rumors that don't involve me possibly commuting?

Edit, PS, Add-on:

Someone asked earlier about when the southies will start flying the 753 Viagra Special. Full crossfleet flying (re: southies flying 5500/5600/5800 series 757s, northies flying bubba 757s and 767s) won't occur until single dispatch capability occurs which will be around April.

So will it be possible for a DAL-S M88 NYC guy to get based in DTW on this bid?

DAL330drvr 12-09-2009 11:33 AM

A330

Any word on the 330?
"Status Quo" for now or are they considering a base move to ATL/NYC on this AE?
I heard from a credible source we're getting a second Sim by Feb.

Doesn't it take a couple months to put one of those things together?

I would dearly love to see the 330 come to ATL on this bid....

I think DTWDC9B will always be a option :D

But yes, DAL-S can bid or be displaced to, any ex-NWA aircraft/bases, except the B747-400 on this upcoming bid.

I have heard we have found sim time. When and where are still details that I want shored up.

I have no idea if this is a possibility, but there are other A330 sims in the world. It could be cheaper to DH people over to France/Germany/etc for training than purchase one right now.
