Denny,
I was referring to the over 60 crowd, the 30 Jun/15 July deadline is not a major player if you are already eligible to retire and collect a full pension. Many of those guys might stick around and see what the flying looks like and then have the option of bailing out if they don't like the rotation construction. The MSP base is especially interesting because some of the captains have a full DB from NW as well as an annuity, add-on and a rollup from pre-merger Republic. I call them the "I'll fly until I get bored" crowd.

I spent a lot of time looking at this at the time of the merger, and it looked like the fNWA pilots actually bid for the biggest piece of equipment they could hold. It was more blurry for the senior WB F/O's, some of whom went for QOL, but everyone else looked a lot more "stovepiped" than DAL. If you think about it, you're proving it when you say more DAL pilots were above their stovepipe level.
With that said, I think you're correct: this could go all kinds of directions, and the fact remains that the natural progression is towards categories that were not "stovepiped". The bases nearest large population centers of the country, i.e. ATL/LA/SEA/NYC are getting more senior, and the midwest is getting more junior.

My wanting of the 73N though lessens as each day passes. This trip I'm flying with one of the "notorious 3" captains, although he is doing a nice job of restraining himself of his old ways that gave him his nickname.
All depends on how you spell junior. This will drive equipment more senior in MSP. Lots off A330A's going to 7ERA..... A330B's to A320A/MD88A..... Then you get the trickle down displacements after the A330 displacements. This will drive you relatively more junior in this midwest base. Not good news for MSP types.
One other thing about an ATL A330 base, and this is total guesswork, I looked at the flying originating and ending in ATL on the A330.
The Good:
HNL - year round
CDG - seasonal
FRA - seasonal, so far 2 months then gone for 2011
DUB - seasonal, so far 2 months
FCO - seasonal
BCN - seasonal
AMS - year round
The Bad and the Ugly:
ACC - seems to be full time A330
DKR - seasonal
ABV via DKR
ROB via DKR
LOS - Feb thru October then back to 777
To achieve full savings of opening a base, I assumed that all trips starting and/or ending in ATL to be flown by ATL based pilots. (I had to start somewhere) My personal criteria is that I not be at risk for any MED flying during PBS runs.
My conclusion is that I am going to let someone else bid ATL because the sheer amount of bad MED flying far outweighs the seasonal good stuff. Good news for you junior guys that want to bid it in ATL. I would rather have a bad commute than a bad destination.

Just thought I'd remind everyone of this.
