Delta Air Lines Inc. (DAL) may soon purchase more narrow-body jets when a tentative contract with its pilot union is ratified by a majority of members.
The accord, which includes pay raises of almost 20 percent, would allow many first officers to upgrade to captain while also creating additional openings for new first officers, Tim O’Malley, chairman of the executive council for the Delta chapter of the Air Line Pilots Association, wrote today in a letter to members.

The contract would also allow the Atlanta-based airline to add more 76-seat regional jets, although “this access can only occur if Delta first acquires small narrow-body jets flown by Delta mainline pilots,” while also getting rid of more 50-seat aircraft flown by regional partners, O’Malley said. Pilots prize jobs on main jet fleets because it means better pay and benefits over the long term.
Analysts have speculated that Delta is among the interested buyers of the 88 Boeing Co. (BA) 717s that Southwest Airlines Co. (LUV) acquired when it purchased AirTran Holdings Inc. last year. Southwest has said repeatedly it would like to get rid of the planes as soon as it can.

The jets have 117 seats and if acquired by Delta would be flown by the carrier’s pilots rather than by regional partners.
Nice carefully worded press release ALPA! Did William Clinton help you write it?

Okay, we've got too many threads going.

And I can't figure out whether to put the pay table... scratch that the ESTIMATED NOT REAL PLEASE DON'T USE AS ANYTHING OTHER THAN A REFERENCE FTB PAY TABLE... in the positive TA or negative TA thread.

Damn, if only the 19% had turned out to be right.

BTW, what is going on with the 70 seaters? Are we getting rid of them to accomodate more 76 seaters? As in is the 255 number of 51+ seaters remaining or are we about to allow more than 255 51+ seaters?

I agree. We've got too many threads going.

If this TA isn't the Latest and Greatest (or worst) thing going on at Delta, I don't know what is. Can't we just discuss it all on here?

Seems as though there is always a catch. Apparently, you have to ask them to GIVE you the money instead of just SHOWING you the money.

Guys, each of us needs to breathe, read the TA, breathe and read again. The TA will stand on its own merits. Its here, and it will require the pilots to decide. The MEC decided to send it to us, there are ramifications to that decision one way or the other, but we have now taken another step down the path. The protections in Section 1 that are real go in to effect July 1. In that light there are items in this agreement that most will not be happy with and many will vote No for. Wait and read the smallest of details. If scope or pay or work rules are non-starters, vote No and exercise you right.

The wording about future mainline jets for RJ growth is well worded, and many will see that as a gateway to their left seat. Section 1 is a product that all reps liked. Keep that in mind.

The cold hard truth is, there is a risk/reward with future plans, and protections in this agreement on a yes, or no vote. Make an informed and not emotional decision. Have a reason for your vote. The next 40 days are going to be one filled with a lot of debate and spin from all of us.
