LAX cover several airports and is the junior base along with NYC which has the same situation.
Not 100% correct. Feb 07 hires are now holding lines on the 800 for the month of Feb. and the early 07 guys on the 90 should hold lines in the next month or so. Some newhires already have been put on the 800 and there are some now going to the 90. The 07 hires that are on the 757 will probably hold lines sometime this summer. Now the lines on the 800 and 757 will suck, but 07 hires are holding lines on the 800 and will be soon on the 757. I will be 75% on the 90 list by June and was hired mid summer 07. Less than a year and that far up the FO list on the 90 in SLC is much better than I ever expected. The opening up of more LAX stuff caused lots of movement on this last bid and I'm sure the bid coming in Feb will pull more guys from SLC to LAX.

Can anyone describe new hire training? How long does it last from indoc to ioe? Is it paid? How about hotels? Is it mostly self study or formal class room? Thanks.

For everyone coming out to Delta Indoc:

Recommend you bring a 3 ring spiral binder and a 3 hole punch or something similar to organize all the loose leaf 8.5 x 11 papers you get issued from various briefiers. I am finishing up week one, and organizing all my various papers / pubs / etc is what I will be doing this weekend besides my out and back jumpseat ride. If there is one thing I wish I would have brought to class it would be that.

As far as the Indoc to IOE timeline:

Indoc: 2 weeks long, partly self study and classroom work 8-5 ish.
(Delta pays for the hotel if you live outside the ATL area.)
Self study at home: Anywhere from 0 days to 3 or 4 weeks (avg has been ~2 weeks)
Initial Qual Training (IQT): Approx 4 weeks for all A/C except 767ER which is ~6 weeks (Pilot is responsible for lodging while at IQT)
IOE: 40 hours on the line (however long that takes depending on A/C)

Upon sign-in on day one the monthly pay is $2750.00 per month until you sucessfully complete IOE.

Once you complete IOE you will then earn first year pay of $49.61/hr.

For financial planning purposes for everyone coming to class:

I project I will be on training pay for approx 3 months.

Once you start flying as a checked out F.O. it will take one month to get paid for flying (example: you are paid in Feb for all flying done in Jan. Therefore, if you are in training status in Jan, get checked out in Feb and fly in Feb, you won't get paid for Feb flying until March.) B.L. Expect a month period with no income until the flight pay catches up.

Also, if you need a full uniform set (coat, hat, 3 pants, 3 shirts, etc) it will run between $550-$750. Also factor in pubs carrying bag ($40 - 300), rolling suitcase ($50-300), a headset ($ haven't researched this one yet), and other various professional items. I came from the AD military and had to purchase all these.

Hopefully this will help everyone coming to class better plan their financial situation for this career change.

Oh, and on a positive note, I have been impressed by the training so far and everyone here is excited about the future of Delta.

They used to have one stored with the Instructor's stuff in the front of the room. Someone will have one and the pubs folks downstairs have them too. ...for those who like to pack light. Besides anyone know how the TSA feels about three hole punches going through security?

I'm looking forward to $79.66/hr next January on the 767 and profit sharing (about 5% of earnings) in February.
