Bottom line is Delta is looking for pilots they believe will be a good fit with the Company and the pilot group. It doesn't matter if one is military, regional, corporate etc. I think the pilot interviewers look at it from the aspect of "can I go out and have a beer with this guy/gal on a layover." Anybody they interview is going to be qualified as far as hours/experience goes. Hence the reason for not bothering with a simulator ride during the hiring process.

Delta doesn't hire First Officers, they hire future Captains. (How one's career actually turns out is another conversation.)

Oh, I agree. I'm just trying to caution Thunderpig that his view of mil training being somehow an advantage is flawed...so is Mesabahs that all mil guys are fighter guys. Both avenues bring benefits, which is why Delta hires the best. Being myopic is not a trait to bring to Delta.

I never said it was unsafe, just that it is difficult to be a 121 Captain without any 121 experience. There are a lot of military guys here at the regionals, and they fly standard just like everyone else. I always thought they deserved more due to their service to the country, skills had little to do with it.

I'm pretty sure they like it if you think Delta is the best air line and all the others are crap.

Yeah, that's it. Reading comprehension is part of the hiring process. You'll go far. Good luck.

Not true. In my interview, the guy asked me, "If you don't get hired at Delta, which other airline would you want to work at, and why?"

You may want to have a good answer for that, because it could happen.

I wouldn't have an answer for that, but for other reasons. If Delta were to hire me, unlikely, I would probably donate my salary to charity anyway.

I had to do some convincing to them in my interview that I wasn't going to jump ship once the higher paying freighters called my number!

In my interview, with retired Captain Dick Tidwell, he stated "I'm going to ask you a question those FAPA guys don't have, do you eat pu$$y?" My answer? " It has to be shaved. I like a clean working surface". I guess I passed. My other interviewer was Dan Funk. I think his jaw hit the floor.

Too funny! I wish they had asked me that, it would have been much easier for me to answer than, "Who else do you want to work for..."

When I was going through right seat KC135 school at Castle AFB, the day they paired us up with our new Aircraft Commanders, mine looks at me with a very stern face and says, "Do you drink?"

I'm thinking...hmmm...why is he asking me this? He looks pretty straight, I wonder if I should fake it....nah, screw it, I'm in the Guard, what can he do to me?

So I answered, "Only to excess!"

He smiled broadly and said, "Good! I'm sick and tired of these Axxholes who don't drink!"

We had a lot of fun together going through Castle, and 3 years later he got hired at Delta as well.

Give me a break......heck I fly the T-6 and still say to myself as we takeoff......"Positive rate, good engines, gear up".......my fellow ct buds still laugh since we only have 1 engine......... and I will probably always say gear down full stop......but is it a safety issue.....nope........not even close..
