Guess that's my point. The OTS guys from a 121 carrier don't seem to have any issues. The military guys don't have any failures but they tend to struggle more than the guys from OTS that are a 121 carrier. I just hope the failures from flow are not a reflection of all those that are not. All things being equal if you have a military guy and a civi guy with pretty comparable credentials, delta seems to usually go with the military guy.

It would be really strange if the military guys DIDN'T initially struggle for a transition to a 121 environment, especially compared to guys coming from said 121 environment.

If you need to understand why Delta hires many military pilots, don't forget that recommendations are an important part of selection (as far as I know). Consider the make-up of the existing group. Do the math. It's fairly simple.

- increase hiring from 85/mo to 115/mo through April 2015
- almost 1000 to start training in CY14

"Off the Street" -- Refers to new hires that are not part of a flow program.

Think of how much the company saves by hiring mil retirees whom mostly use Tricare instead of company health insurance?

That and it is very easy to verify everything in their background vs. having to get records from numerous previous employers and flight schools. It takes one call to basically know everything about a mil guy.
