Do ya’ll think they will start using the phonetic alphabet in ATL finally? I’m aware of the rational but it has always seemed absurd.

A lot of views. No comments. People are scared to say hello anymore without being labeled. Good luck.

That's why you have GPS on your IPAD. It'll always be DIxie, Good Day.

The way Mother Delta is shrinking, it won’t be an issue going forward.

Does anyone know when it started? Wouldn’t it be easier to change it to a different letter than use non standard phraseology? Seems more confusing the way it is not to mention the connotations

It's a stupid vestige from when Delta was a small airline that rarely left the South East. Somehow MSP, DTW, SLC, LAX, SEA, LGA, and JFK can all function without using "dixie," but ATL (based pilots) can't. Add "dixie" to the list of phrases that should be banned such as, "our metal," "fish finder," referring to non pilots as civilians, "scare bus," and "any traffic in the area please advise."

I’d rather smoke in a dynamite store in than go there.

EAL pilots back in the 80’s would not say Delta taxiway so it became Dixie.

At the risk of sounding like a 7 year old; but why?

Imagine if a ground controller told you to turn left on “Delta” and then you mistakenly turned left onto a Delta 737...confusing.
