Delta Hiring News

The latest and greatest about delta thread is lost.......so how about some updated news on Delta and the hiring plans...

Timbo 04-28-2013 03:20 PM

Call back in....

2014.

Unless there's another merger, then fugedaboutit.

Free Bird 04-28-2013 03:33 PM

I just heard from a line check type that hiring will be December of this year and will continue indefinitely.

Don't shoot the messenger.

Just finished CQ in ATL.....this jives with what the training folks have been told. They would like to start training in January so expect interviews late 2013. This allows "new hires" to help staff for summer 2014. It feels like we are getting close. If SD says something then it will be the kiss of death.

Thanks for the updates....keep them coming....(so to speak).....

WARich 04-28-2013 04:22 PM

Anyone know of the magic formula for getting a Delta interview when it begins? Seems initially you have to have flown AF 1.....or Marine 1....or been on the Shuttle....any idea of the hiring numbers per a year?

It never hurts to know people.:D I am a believer in timing and luck as well. Get your app in as early as possible and continuously update it. We are bound by contract to bring a number of guys in through flow agreements. This will initially limit our ability to hire off the street guys. Our contract is written so that DAL interviews 35% (I believe this number is accurate) DCI guys. This is actually lower than the percentage they will interview. In 2010, it was 50/50 interviewed and I believe DAL hired a higher percentage of civilian than they did Mil. You guess is as good as mine.

That is exactly what SD said 5 days ago!

I thought that was the SWA hiring criteria.

Two DAL guys told me interviews could start as early as August for December Class dates...Airline Applications is my bestest friend

redship 04-29-2013 05:41 AM

Last I heard from the training department was classes starting in Jan 2014. 50/month for a few months then a break. Classes will start up again late fall 2014 and continues indefinitely.

Those guys were correct.

Flavio340 04-29-2013 06:21 AM

Window open in January 2014 interviews February/March first class April. Should be around 40-50 new hires each month, with breaks during the summer.

Columbia 04-29-2013 07:01 AM

Window opens just after Labor Day for interviews in late Sept for classes starting in Nov/Dec. Expect 50/month going forward.

Well, which one is it, or are we just making predictions?

Guess I better not let my airlineapps membership lapse, it hasn't done any good so far. Gotta get my Delta internal recs to work.

SVA402 04-29-2013 07:14 AM

What is meant by "window opens"? As far as I'm aware they just pull from their thousands of airline apps folks...

LeineLodge 04-29-2013 07:25 AM

The last time around (2010) SD announced that interviews/hiring would begin, via memo, pretty far in advance of guys actually showing up to class. I can't remember the exact time frame because it was 3 years ago, but we will all have plenty of notice when the start spooling up. I'm remembering 3-4 months, but that could be off by a bit.

I was in for CQ last week and was hearing the same thing - classes running from Jan-May (~50/month). That means they'd have to start interviewing by roughly September I'd think to get thinks going in. That coincides with the 717 and 737-900 deliveries hitting full stride also, so the rumor seems to jive.

It really will be nice when the dam finally breaks and we get some movement. Someone on here recently raised the point that once guys start advancing it requires even more staffing to fly the schedule because a certain % of pilots are in training at any given time. The kind of vicious cycle we all want :D Hopefully we'll get some good news here in the next few months.

Actually pretty much every airline these days employs significant amounts of "targeted selection". The OP asked about getting hired at DL. A large part of that is fitting in. What you call a "derailment" is actually one of the better answers to the question than you give it credit for.

WARich 04-29-2013 03:33 PM

thanks guys for staying on topic for the most part....helps those of us who aren't with mother D yet.....

How is "fitting in" and "targeted selection" the same? Not every 28-35 year old Regional Line Check Airman with 1250-2500 TPIC and an aeronautically oriented masters degree has the same personality. The math no longer adds up in the airline's favor for pilots with 12 letters of recommendation claiming their buddy from their Crashpad is a "good guy".

cni187 04-29-2013 04:41 PM

C-21 then C-5 guy who separated Jul 2010. I submitted my application via airline apps with absolutely no known affiliates at Delta. Everyone I know flies for SWA. I got an email in Jun 2010 and was in an interview on terminal leave. It can be done!!

Military has a much higher likelihood to get an interview without a rec. I only know of person on the civilian side that got an interview without one. (I'm sure there are others, though)

Old news. Plus all the AirTran guys have to do it as part of indoc/re-education. Khmer Rouge Pol Pot style.

That's pretty much what I was getting at. The code really isn't that hard to crack, yet many just stare right through it like those stupid fake 3-D drawings they claim work but never really do.

With that said, we hire some good dudes. There's even some at my Crashpad.

I just don't like anyone thinking that Delta is the walk on JV squad...

Where did gloopy imply that? slowplay is going to be mad at the mention of varsity, speaking of. ;)
