Kew to EWR--LIRR from Kew to Penn Station (4-5 dollars) then NY transit to EWR (8.75 for military (12.75 normal)...you can purchase senior ticket and show military ID) via app you can do this all electronically. Then Airtrain to ewr (free with NJ transit ticket). Takes about an hour and 20 minutes if you line up the times right but plan 2 hours.

Q runner taxi leaves every 30 minutes from Kew during the day and costs 8 to LGA and JFK from Metro/Lefferts.

Other taxis (Kew Gardens and General) cost 12 to JFK and 15ish to LGA and 18 LGA to JFK. I preferred General. Sometimes they are prompt and other times you will wait 20-30 minutes.

Only a few things to add:
- Time-limited, call General, not Kew Gardens. I've also had Merengue recommended.
- Early morning reservation, definitely don't rely on Kew Cab to be on time.
- In PBS, avoid trips leaving out of EWR if you can. Plenty of PA folks will slurp them up on some categories. If you're on reserve, just tell them you're in reasonable range to LGA/JFK and will get to EWR as soon as you can.

For starving artist new hires, here are a few pointers I learned the hard way.

1. Q-runner picks you up upstairs in the departure section, not downstairs in the arrival section. Makes perfect sense when you realize they are dropping people off to go fly, makes no sense when you get off the plane in NYC for your 1st time and you go to the place where all the other cabs are lined up. In addition, Q-runner is flavor of the month in regard to vehicles. They have a blue Q-runner van but I've seen an assortment of minivans with a piece of printer paper in the window that says Q-runner. If it is raining and they're not running behind, ask for a drop off at your pad and tip an extra buck.

2. Crew runner is awesome, just make sure you download the schedule off Deltanet so you can be ready when you're on your 1st ever short call and you get the 0301 call saying be at Newark in 3 hours. Don't go full retard like I did and call Kew Gardens cab for the $100 + tip trip. BTW, there is always room on the crew runner, I saw them stack at least 15 FAs on the JFK van this morning. :)

3. Good luck with a pad, they all seem to have trade offs. Mine is well into the disgustingly dirty side, but on the happy side I haven't had a roommate yet and the WiFi and location are good. My friend has one that is infested by FAs that cackle nonstop but at least I didn't see rodent droppings in the drop ceiling light fixtures...

Is Kew Gardens an area or the name of the crash pad? Mike, where did u stay? Also if I am flying a trip starting the end of Feb and then don't pick up reserve until 16 March, think its better to just get the hotel the first night for the trip and start the crash pad on the 15th? Do they go by calendar day, month to month?

Any suggestions for a hotel (JFK trip) for one night?

Go to LGA. Hop on USAir or delta shuttle to BOS or DCA. Turn around and hop on united to EWR.
Total travel time 3-4hrs
Cost: free with potential 1st class seat

Did it many times back when I was based in LGA and got an EWR trip ;)

but then you would have to fly united...and sit in 1st class without being able to drink!

Anybody have info on the Ozone Park area? I am going to swap my crash pad and saw one that looks nice there run by Chris McMaster. Any intel on the area or the specific pad would be great.

Just off google maps I don't like the location since it's not central to LGA and JFK the way Kew Gardens is. I also like that I feel completely safe in Kew when I'm forced to walk to/from the pad late at night or early in the morning.

I had my crashpad with CM. Clean, comfortable, walking distance to pizza port, and market. 15 minute walk from train off Lefforts. Nice neighborhood.

Too bad NY Helicopter went away...you could have just jumpseated!
