Default My Backpack Is Off

How many times were we told that we were valued employees?

We weren’t.

We are just cost items, like fuel and landing fees.

Management’s TA proves that we have been manipulated and lied to all along.

Our past sacrifices resulted in a paltry offer of recognition. An offer aimed at achieving a 50% + 1 affirmative vote. That is not an offer aimed at a valued employee group.

My backpack is off.

I used to give 150% for this Company. Those efforts were based on mutual respect, when there was none. Those efforts were for a Company I believed in, now I don’t.

If I am not a valued employee, I’m not going to act like one.

It feels lighter and more comfortable without my backpack.

Customer engagement will come to a halt. Only those tasks specifically required of me will be accomplished.

Once again, my backpack is off.

I need a little ME time.

I hope your baseball cap is off too. Anyway a bit of a reality check. You are an individual which your company made an investment in... sort of an asset. You are an asset to which your company wants to see a return on their investment. The touchy-feely "atta boy" days are long gone.

You don't like where you are??? move on. You won't be missed There won't be a toast in you honor at the afternoon's happy hour at the Blue Velvet Bar, where Dave and the No Tones are singing.

I'll wager that your experience with your next company, if you manage to get by the HR interview (explaining why you want to leave Brand X), and manage to get hired, won't be much better. Probably worse as you will be at the bottom of the seniority list.

Don't sink to the level of your management by exhibiting a less than professional attitude towards your passengers, cabin crew, as well as your fellow cockpit crewmembers.

That said, keep the back pack off, do your job, and rally with your colleagues.

Your customers didn't do anything to deserve your entitled disrespect. nor will taking out your personal frustration on them do ANYTHING to "prove" what a big and important person you are to your management.

That's like doing a double-fisted Uzi drive-by on your target standing in a crowded room, when what you need is a sniper.

Put your backpack back on, vote no, have a beer, and let the personal side of it go. Your customers are not your enemy.

The backpack is off over at AA. Management had a golden opportunity to create "a new culture" and improve this place, but that window of opportunity closed when they duped us with a contract that lags you in total compensation (even before TA), and has work rules that haven't improved since the US/AA bankruptcies. We don't even have min calendar day.

Management is making lots of money with employees that aren't exactly happy, it's a strategy that works for them and lines their pockets.

Don't listen to this guy. Stay right where you are and fight for a fair contract. I know you will continue to be a professional. Attempting to guild trip you into doing all the extra stuff you normally do is silly. You have a right to feel the way you do right now. The company touts operating with integrity but they aren't following their own admonition. Being a professional is a two way street. Enriching oneself while selling out another is not leadership nor professional.

I'll fly a trip with you any day! Keep going and be a part of history by voting down the slap in the face contract that finally woke Delta pilots up!

In no way did I mean to imply that I was going to be a total unprofessional tool.

Not to the pax, other crew members, or Company Officials.

I do intend to continue to do my job in a safe and professional manner. Anything above that will be up for discussion.

When the "union" you have screws you, siding instead with Mgmt, it's not a motivation factor. Busting your hump for Mgmt doesn't make a bit of sense, either.

Doing a safe and professional job is about as far as I'm willing to go.

I do wish there weren't so many PA's. Delta has a reputation for being very "wordy".... Some say it's customer service. Others say it annoying (especially with seat back entertainment). A matter of perspective I guess.

Cost Item... Like the rest of the community... you too are entitled to blow off steam. I can't tell you how many times whilst walking our beach ranting to my wife and our four legged beast about anything and everything relating to our industry. My best friend, my wife, said not to worry... there's a martini in your near future and you still have the power to change what ever you don't like... another contract with another airline overseas.

You, and your colleagues have the power... the power to vote your representatives out of office, if it is determined that they've acted in an interest contrary to the membership's tenets.

I hope that when the dust settles at your carrier, that you feel proud to be part of both your union, and carrier.

Cheers... captjns

I like your wife. Mine is my best friend also. It makes the BS in life easier to bear. I'm thankful for her presence and commonsense everyday.
