Jet Airways

Unlocking Value!!! Another Delta code-partner (partially owned by an ME3) to take way Delta wide-body jobs.

Tell me again why we should worry about ME3, while our own company is actively and feverishly diluting the Delta brand? C.E. Woolman would have a fit.

Seems like it would be in our best interest for alpa to be expanding/increasing the PS instead of giving it away.

Here's a quick Q and A on the new Jet Airways JV:

Q. Why is Delta partnering with Jet?

A. The primary reason Delta is embarking on a codeshare with Jet is because government-subsidized Gulf carriers now dominate international travel to India, meaning U.S. airlines can no longer economically serve the Indian market directly from North America. It is remarkable that today there are just two flights daily operated by a U.S. carrier to India, which is a major business and trading partner with the United States. The Gulf carriers have dumped subsidized capacity in the market so we are forced to find codeshare partners to be able to transport our customers to India, because it wasn’t financially viable to operate our own services.

Q. Etihad Airways owns a 24 percent stake in Jet, and those two airlines operate a strategic alliance that includes codesharing across their networks. Is it hypocritical for Delta to partner with Jet given that it is fighting to push Etihad out of U.S. markets?

A. The fact that Etihad owns a minority investment in Jet doesn’t change the fact that Gulf carriers have deeply distorted the playing field on international flights to India, in violation of the Open Skies agreements. We are asking the U.S. government to open consultations with the UAE and Qatar to address the subsidy issue. But in the meantime airlines like Delta are forced to find ways to adapt, and this codeshare is beneficial to our customers as well as Jet’s.

I hope you guys all answered ALPA's Call to Action and wrote to your Senators and Congressmen about the Open Skies agreement and the subsidizing of the ME3.

Agreed Timbo - Only 1,800 Delta pilots have signed the petition and sent the email to their congressman and President through ALPA PAC.

It seriously takes less than 30 seconds, for those that haven't done it. Its just one click to sign the petition, and for the letter, its already done as a form letter and the website even includes your name for you. All you have to do is hit send. Please take the time to do it today.

Log in to the DAL ALPA website. scroll down halfway to the Call to Action Box, that takes you to the ALPA PAC Advocacy page. Then scroll down to the Pilots Call to Action Box and click on Enforce Our Open Skies Agreements. It takes you to the form letter, and all you have to do is sign (you may also want to select a topic from the pull down menu at the bottom of the letter, select Economy). And that's it, youre done. I just ran through it again and literally took me 30 seconds.

You can even sign the other 4 calls to action while youre there :)

I agree, but CE Woolman never operated in the same environment....his was a regulated airline carrier that was primary operated out of the SE.

I agree, thus why I said what I said.

Delta is no longer Delta. Delta is morphing into SKYTEAM. Management is getting richer, while pilots and employees are concerned about their futures.

In a few years, this management team will sunset and retire with money, medical, retirement and a plethora of perks. The employees will be stuck holding a basket full of doo-doo.

Keep your eye on the ball. Ive said this before, ME3 is a tactic for us to divert us from the real issue of outsourcing/JV/Codeshare/Whipsawing. IMHO, all these big shot managers play nice with each other in the board-room then pretend to compete with each other in front of us.

The shipping industry is making its way into our industry with the help of our own blood.

That is an interesting angle.

It is instructive that the company drafted DALPA as a "partner" to fight the ME3...even paying for FPL for guys working on projects of mutual interest to the company and DALPA...at roughly the same time it started the mass outsourcing.

That sounds like a diversion. Harwood, Hanson and the "strategic planners" sure didn't sniff that out.

Somebody didn't do their homework on Jet and other Indian carriers. The FAA had all of their (India's) carriers downgraded due to the oversight or lack of by their regulating authority. Etihad was trying to expand into the US using Jet, but couldn't do it because of the downgrade. So I'm guessing all is good with the FAA and India now. Have fun with this one.

I think our biggest threat is the joint venture agreements we allow in the contract. With each LOA and each contract we allow more and more for the company.

We should spend more time watching our 6 instead of worrying about what's happening overseas.

We have turned out to be one of our worst enemies.
