My former regional still uses age, oldest to youngest.

Might be true if it were happening. Delta's retention rate for new hires is virtually 100%. We are also poaching from all the other airlines.

dont sugar coat something that isn't true. We have people leaving here at the same rate we are poaching from UA and AA. Southwest I believe we have more coming over than leaving to go there.

Even the military uses age to determine who outranks who. it rarely matters, but I know of three people in basic training, same AFSC that ended up at the same first duty station. So, birthday did determine who outranked who.

Personally, I would like to see seniority in class applied like so using “ageism”. Or something like this.

1. ALPA (argument could be made for this to be 2)
2. Wholly owned
3. Delta Regional
4. All Others

American Airlines uses age, with the oldest being the most senior. At least they didn back in 2014.

According to flight ops hiring report we hired 932 pilots in 2017 as of 1 Nov. 944 remain on the seniority list. Clearly we did not gain 12 bodies so there is a error in the 932 number but regardless new hire attrition is not a issue.

no one said it's an issue. Don't pretend that it's only people leaving other airlines coming here and people aren't leaving here for other airlines.

Can't tell how much of this is comedy, how much is sarcasm and how much is misunderstanding. Certainly no one is suggesting age would drive one's seniority above anyone hired before them. Age to determine one's seniority amongst a group of 20-75 pilots (one class) seems very reasonable to me though.

Didn't they take that to court for age discrimination?
