How does the drop go down? You show up on day one and they hand you an aircraft assignment and domicile based on your SSN?

They don't hand it to you, there is an offering to the class of positions in various domiciles and AC types, and each person in class picks from that list in seniority order. If the drop doesn't have what you want or it's taken by the time it gets to your pick, tough beans.

With an ssn starting with zero, I have no aspirations. I’m just happy to be aboard.

Just poke your head in the class of 60 a week behind you and go "neener neener neener" and you will feel much better.

Haha! This job is always a mixed bag....

in defense of the 88, its quite amazing a low bp fan engine airframe is still operating AND making money in 2018. They have made a bundle for delta over the last 25+ years.

That said....im happy to have never had that inside view of the sim.

Just think, when the new hire that gets blessed with the 88s gets to be close to retirement age, they can talk to a young first officer over a beer. “Yes, son, I walked uphill to school and uphill going home. All in knee deep snow. You never know how good you got it.”

Reminds me of a TWA story. When they got their first Constellation (4 piston engines, but one of the first pressurized cabins), the owner of TWA Howard Hughes and the CEO Jack Fry, both Cracker Jack Pilots, flew to Dayton, Ohio. They got Orville Wright aboard, in his 70s at the time. Checked him out and let him take off, fly around for half an hour, and land. Orville had tears in his eyes as he got off a ‘modern’ plane.
