I have a child, one on the way, and my wife stays at home now. What compounds the situation is having to drop over $2,000 between lodging, uniform, food, etc. for training. All while taking a large pay hit for training pay and small hit for first year pay. I feel helpless as I know it’s a question of not if, but when furloughs come.

You have a lot on your plate....try and stay positive. I’ve been in your shoes. It’s day to day and it’s stressful. Let’s hope this blows over in a few months and Delta doesn’t need to furlough. As others have said there will be LOA’s, SILs, reduced ALVs and retirements. Although the Big D may go through some shrinkage they may not have to furlough if this does not remain prolonged. Nobody really knows the duration or economic impact going forward for our careers at this point. Yes it is frustrating, but control what you can. So enjoy your family and health and hope for the best.

Nobody’s talking furloughs yet. It’s a totally different position Deltas in right now than the last couple times they furloughed. If they need to cut pilots, all they have to do is not hire while our record retirement start kicking in. Let’s pray that’s the worst it gets.. In the meantime, we all need to stick together and do what we can to keep the losses at a minimum.

Just remember that it can always be worse. I'm currently unemployed. Wife and 2 kids. Got the interview invite from Delta during my 4 weeks severance from my last job. I had been applying for 5 and half years and suddenly the invite came when I needed it most. I spent $900 on the interview while unemployed. I received a CJO, but never got a class date. Now I'm staring at months (or possibly years) before getting picked up.

I have no idea where I may end up at this point.

I am so sorry to hear this. I am truly hoping this is short term but it’s anyone’s guess. I’m fully expecting to get sent home between start of class and June.

I feel bad for all in these situations.

it’s too late now, but an idea for future candidates when this all turns around. When I was hired I bought a couple thousand dollars worth of puts on delta as a hedge if something happened. I obviously didn’t want anything to happen, but if it did I would have at least had some more cash.

kind of wishing that I would of stuck with it at this point.
