Malone Divides = We Subtract
Based on the ATL meeting yesterday, Malone has zero intention of honoring the majority's direction and seeking improvements to the AIPs.
His strategy is crystal clear: he wil bypass the MEC majority, and take his case directly to the pilot group. He is working with alpa's pollster (the same guy we've been paying since Moak) to massage the data. (Lies, damn lies, and statistics.) It will all be presented in closed session; the majority will be unable to publicly refute it. The he will neuter the majority by claiming he has polling data to support these pending concessions.
Next he'll drag the MEC majority through the mud by activating [xxx, xxx, xxx ], and all the former "black polo shirt" heavies and ALPA lifers. It will be an epic and ill-advised smear campaign.
If the Mec succumbs to his hectoring, It will be crucial to "what-if" the concessions again in the face of another expensive, high-pressure sales job, delivered with Malone's promise not to engage in a sales job.
It's time to accept that Malone is essentially a smoother-operating Donatelli. He's too polished to commit Donatelli's gaffes. But his irrational need to solve the company's problems at our expense--and use his administration to steamroll the MEC and pilot group--make him a shoe-in for a follow-on position with the Moak group.
Meanwhile, we'll be stuck voting down another terrible TA that would force us to buy our own rate increases in the best climate we'll ever see, and would make us the punchline after all the heavy lifting our peers have done. Why is dalpa afraid to dig in and fight? I don't get it.

Why is your goal the fight and not the best possible contract for the Delta pilots?

If a MC defies the will of the majority of the MEC then that MC risks being recalled. Me thinks that you are grossly overstating things. Let me guess, you are a DPA supporter? Nothing like planting the seeds of disunity.

This from the guy who claims to know inside info from ALPA and the company on a daily basis.
My goal is a deal that recognizes our contribution to the bottom line. That's not what Makone is setting us up for. I desperately want to be able to vote "yes." The current product is unfortunately unsupportable.

I was there. John Malone was not inspiring. If the TA we will have shortly makes it out of the MEC, it will not pass memrat, imho.

ALPA is on thin ice. It makes sense to examine what exactly it is we need from ALPA that we can't do ourselves better and cheaper.

You mean DALPA that helped prevent a merger with LCC and negotiated two industry-leading, on-time contracts that lead the pilot profession out of the Chapter 11 wilderness? Delta pilots made the right call voting down the last TA and now stand to benefit from the United extension, FDX & UPS contracts and the LUV TA. It appears the DPA folks are getting a bit panicked that their true goal is slipping away.
