It's highly unlikely you will see any in this bid.

I would guess AEs run first to establish a "staffing list" from which seniority is established to determine if an inbound MD can be accommodated? All playing out before the award is published, so somebody at the bottom of the initial AE run might get a spot and then be gone without ever knowing it. With 20 years PNW, I'm not counting on getting the 350.

zippinbye, what are you hearing on the 74 about guys going to the 350? I understand they don't want a paycut, but are you hearing that a lot of the guys want to go 350? I am very interested to see how this plays out. It's been so long since we have got any new premium WB jets, the movement that this will create will be interesting. This is the first time I've really been interested in bidding something new. The idea of going Fifi is really pulling at me

Yes and not bidding on anything, But just asking a question to build my knowledge base.

You can volunteer to be displaced. If somebody in your category would be displaced because of a mandatory displacement, they will substitute you instead of him. It would go in seniority order from all of the voluntary displacements top down.

What I just drew a blank on is whether you get to bump people based on your seniority or the seniority of the person that would have been mandatorily displaced.

VD's are taken from the category before MD's. If, for some reason, they shrink the DTW 74-B category by displacements, the Company will offer voluntary displacement preferences prior to mandatorily displacing someone. (Sorry, I know I said the same thing twice.)

Edit: What BtoA said.

High level overview:

1) Someone in your category (obviously junior to you or you would be getting a MD too) has to get a mandatory displacement.

2) You "volunteer" to take that person's mandatory displacement so you step into his/her shoes to leave the category.

3) It is not an Advanced Entitlement so you only get to move into a category that the seniority of person whose shoes you have stepped into could hold. Obviously, once into the category, you will slide in where your seniority holds.

4) If you have a training freeze still in effect, it will follow you and get added onto the freeze that you may/will incur for the VD.

Advantage to the voluntary displacement: Gets you out of your present category regardless of training feeeze.

Disadvantage: Possible cumulative training freeze and you are limited to the category that the junior person whose displacement you are volunteering to take can hold, not what category your seniority can hold.

Clear as mud?

You leave a category in lieu of somebody junior to you, basically. Unlike a mandatory displacement, voluntary displacements incur a training freeze if you change equipment. But you should be eligible for a company paid move if all the other criteria are met.

Thanks. That all verifies what I thought. Does pay follow you from your old category or do you just get whatever your new plane is?

Pay will be a factor, but I'd say there's a general presumption that the pay will equal 744/777. If it's less, should be similar to the Dreamliner. Not a huge difference There's a lot of folks that don't really want the French immersion experience. I think the 777 will get hit pretty hard in both seats, and a lot of F/Os will end up in the left seat of the 7ER or better. Those willing to shake paws with Fifi will do the 330 or 350. There's quite of few school-phobic dudes at the top who may just fade into the sunset with the Whale. Personally, in the low 7000's, I'm thinking A350/B or CS 100/300-A if the timing is right. Having been hired onto the Baby Bus (which had a wash-out reputation at the time), I can say anybody who has ever flown a FMS auto flight jet should acclimate just fine to the Toulouse culture. It's a sweet office. I assume the 350 will be simply mo betta. As long as the bunks are good, it should be a fine category to land in.

I just checked, starting my 21st year next month (currently NYC320A), there is already one showing above me. I may bid it for two years and then go back to the 320 later. It looks to be at least 6 years till I can hold the 330 left seat.
